When we brought home our second rescue dog, Duke, he was terrified of my husband. This was because he had been mistreated at his previous home, and it was a man who was so bad to him.

For the first couple of months, I made SURE that every time Duke was fed, he saw my husband putting the food in the dish and putting the dish on the floor, and the whole time talking in a very soothing voice. It didn't matter what he was saying, as long as "Duke is a GOOD boy" was every other sentence.

Also, all treats were given to Duke by my husband. It didn't take long for Duke to learn that my husband can be trusted. Now they lay on the bed together and watch TV.

It will take your dog a little time, but he'll get used to your dad. Remember that your pooch isn't just being introduced to a new person, but also to a new home. He needs time to adjust to his new surroundings, and to the new person he is sharing those surroundings with.

Hi, Bad problem. You need to be there for the dog. Slowly introduce your dog and Dad to each other in a more secure environment. If you're in a small room, your dog will feel trapped and will be more likely to be scared. So go to a park or something like that. Put your dog on a long piece of rope so he doesn't feel too trapped, but you still have control of him. Hold him close to you and keep food treats on hand. Most dogs are strongly ruled by food, so he'll put that at the top of the prioritys list. I recommend cheese, they love it. Have your Dad come slowly closer to you and every time your dog gets more upset, put a treat in front of his nose and let him gobble it up. Repeat the process slowly and frequently, and eventually, you'll be able to play happy families! Good luck!

I'm assuming your dog has had little to no socialization with men.
Get them both in the backyard or somewhere safe, outside....and have your dad try to ignitiate play or just give your dog some treats.
It may take a while, but your dog will sooner or later realize that your father is not a threat to him. Until then, ask your dad to remain patient.

He needs to get out with you and your dad for a walk. First you walk him then tell your dad not to get nervous and keep his head up and hold the leash firm. They will become great friends after a while.

Your dad needs to spend time laying on the floor and talking sweet to him. It sounds absolutely ridiculous, but it worked for my Uncle's dog. She used to be terrified of my uncle, now they are best friends.
I hope you dad is open to something like that.

just have your dad ignore the dog until the dog says "hi" to dad...No eye contact or anything...do Not pressure the dog!... This is what happens with no socialization!
