I have been wanting to quit smoking for health and social reasons for years, however I have never had that all out burning desire to quit. I have recently asked my doctor for a prescription for Wellbutrin as I have heard that it does work for smoking cessation. I want to give quitting a shot. Has anyone tried it? Does it work? And what, if any, side effects have been experienced. My biggest concern is that it is an anti-depressent. Thank you!

There has been great success for for people taking wellbutrin to stop smoking. One of the temporary side effects of smoking cessation is anxiety. The wellbutrin helps the anxiety, so you can cope with the nicotine withdrawal. But if you are not really committed to quit smoking, you still may not be successful. You need a really strong conviction to stick with it. Good Luck. This site has lots of information

Wellbutrin is an anti depressant so while you are on it you will feel happier, less like smoking and you may also loose some weight. I have a friend who was on it and she noticed all 3 of these. I was on it briefly and I felt the same about it, but I didnt lose as much weight as my friend did. I had no negative side effects.

I was on it for 2 weeks and I couldn't take it any more, it drove me nuts! One minute I was foggy, the next I would have a temper tantrum over any little thing or crying over nothing. The moods were so drastic and I was nausious most of the time. It made me smoke more since I was all over the place with my temperment. I've taken other antidepression meds but this was the worse. If your husband acts different it's not his fault it's the Wellbutrin talking.

It can be a great aide in stop smoking. But depending on your age you may need to evaluate why you smoke and yes it is an antidepressant which has sexual side effects in some people which means you need a sample month or two first. Then find something else to do with your hands when you want one!!!

Oh...it works :D

After two weeks you will be smoking air... and if you drink... you will not want to do even that.

It does make you light headed for a few days...I would recommend starting on a weekend.

Just remember to take the pill daily otherwise it will not work.
