DING!! You lose!! They were called the Mustang II and were made from 1974 through about 1980 if memory serves correctly. The next version of the Mustang also had an I-4 engine as standard, up into the early 1990s I believe. The standard engine was the 2.3 liter SOHC "Pinto" engine.
While you won't find a NEW Mustang with an I-4 engine, they certainly were produced in large numbers, and quite a few do remain on the road to this day.

Yes they do exist! You'd have to go back to the 80's but they did make them. I know that from 1980 through 1988 or even later they did make them. The 4 cylinder engine is the same on that was in the infamous Pinto's. They were pretty reliable, you just didn't want to race them. If you drove them normally it wasn't rare to find one with 160k miles or more on them. However, if you're talking about the new Mustang's 2005 and newer, there is no 4 cylinder engine available.

properly i belive that many of the seventy 4-seventy 8 mustang II did contain them it is one reason that they replaced the body style because human beings didint pick enormous autos because of gasoline prices. then in 1979 they got here out with the fox body and some did contain 4 cylinders actualy in 1979 the 4 cylinder mustangs were better comen then the v6 or v8 some did contain turbos yet those are large uncommon. they made a 4 cylinder in those autos each and each and every of how till ninety 3 i belive. some were motor vehicle and some were guide. the 80-ninety 3 4 cylinders werent saught affter like the 5.0 alot of human beings take out the 4 cylinder and drop in ford enormous and small blocks in them. from ninety 4 till now they have not made any 4 cylinders the autos are type 2 enormous for them. each and each and every of the mustangs besides the gts and shelbys, saleens ect were v6 in spite of the indisputable fact that the gt,shelby, saleens and rouche all have v8s

It depends on what year she is looking for. Mustangs have certainly been available with 4 cyl. in the past. Not sure if the current models are available with a 4 cyl.

As others have pointed out, they did make 4-cylinder ponycars for several years.
But, why get in a p!$$ing contest with your gf's dad? No good comes of that, no matter who wins. Make peace with the man! He knows Mustang history better than you, anyway.

I don't know much about cars, but even I know that a Mustang is a muscle car, and 4 cylinders is a putt-putt car that can hardly go up a hill. Yeah I don't see how that would exist, either.

You could get them in turbocharged 4 cyl. flavor too. In 84 (and maybe 83) you could get a GT trimmed mustang with a turbo 4 as well as 84-86 mustang SVO, which all came with turbo 4's.
