Can celebs like Bono or Angelina Jolie, really speak intelligently on matters like poverty?

You don't have to be educated to experience poverty. Just because they are famous and wealthy now doesn't mean they grew up in those circumstances. And, they can probably speak more about it than you or I since they have actually visited and witnessed the conditions of the places they are working to support.

seeing people live in a 3rd world country and telling the world about it does not require a degree. Those who are living the poverty can certainly speak about it because they're living it. And I doubt they've had the benefit of an educational background, but aren't they the most qualified to speak??? What has education have to do with compassion?

Celebs and other people with privledge often have the oppty to IGNORE the ugliness in life. Moreso than the average first-world citizen. They have decided to use their celebrity to focus attention on the welfare of others who are in need. There are TONS of other celebs who use their powers for self-serving purposes. Why not trash them instead of Bono and Angelina Jolie? WHAT ARE YOU DOING ABOUT POVERTY???

They do have educational background in the matters. Both Bono and Angelina Jolie have been to African nations experiencing famine, poverty, and abuse of money by the government causing its people to be in the situations they are in. In my opinion, no one can truly have an understanding of an issue without being put in it first.

Angelina Jolie actually has some background in poverty, because of the way she was raised, and she is actually doing something to help . Are you? Or do you just want to run down celebrities?

I think they can speak pretty intelligently, being that they have been in areas of extreme poverty and interacted with the people that have been hit by it. You don't need to have a formal, educational background on something to be able to talk about it intelligently.

I don't see why they couldn't. Regardless of background, any person can choose to educate themselves on issues like world poverty it they want to. You don't have to be an educated individual to have compassion and a drive to improve the world. Can they speak intelligently on the issue? Sure. Many so-called uneducated people can speak intelligently on an issue just as well as an educated person. Their job is entertaining people, but an entertainer can have other interests and concerns, just like any one of us.

But one can always learn the trade if there is interest. U really don't need an educational background to talk on these matters.. just knowledge is enough to start with and when u get into it.. u get the rest. They have attraction, appeal and means to help them so let them.. what's wrong with that?

I know a person who speaks daily and people trust his judgement on many important matters, although he may not have had the experiences in life that you would think a person would require to express opinions about these subjects. But, W does employ a lot of speech writers.

I don't think so because I bet if they weren't famous or didn't have money they would'nt do anything like that, but if they did I think Bono would because he looks like he would and also the songs they have are pretty good in the way of what they say about stuff!
