Absolutely they are. Whoever disagrees must have a different deffinition of the word "Christian". The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition states the deffinition to be "One who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
One who lives according to the teachings of Jesus". There are several Christian churches, and Mormons follow under that category. Some of these churches believe that God, Jesus, and the Holy Ghost are three seperate beings (including mormonism), some believe they are the same. Some believe in baptism by immersion (like mormons do), some don't. All these religions have different beliefs, otherwise they'd be the same church. Mormons believe that Jesus attoned for our sins, lived a perfect life, fullfilled the Mosiac law, and died for us so that we can all go to heaven. I have yet to hear a common Christian belief about Jesus that Mormons don't also beleive in. I'd like to encourage those who answered with flat-out lies to actually do research on these kind of things.

I've seen a lot of debate over this question. I mean, I do live in Utah.
There was a movie released not long ago called "The RM" that debatted this. Never saw the movie, had no interest, but I think the story was something like a missionary coming back from his mission and finding out his religion was undergoing a political war of sorts. I guess it's actually been debated in a US court of law (*sigh*).
Officcially, according to what I've heard, no. Mormonism is not legally recognized as a Christian sect. But honestly, how can you say that about a religoon whose name contains "Jesus Christ". The official label of the Mormon church is 'The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints'. In my opinion that's enough to make them Christian.

A lot of the previous answers have been stupid. Especially Joseph J.'s comment about Revelation saying not to add to what was written. That was a warning to the scribes who passed on the written records, and tended to cut corners, "clarify" them to make their own political or theological points, and otherwise tamper with the Bible.
Deuteronomy contains almost the exact same scripture, "do not add to what the Lord says" essentially- does that mean Isaiah was violating the law when he added to the Torah? That Matthew violated it when he wrote more? That God Himself can't write more?
Any definition of "Christian" that would exclude Mormons is one that would be defined hypertechnically to meet someone's own personal creed, whether on the Trinity or whatever else. Christian in the sense of worshipping Jesus is a non-debatable point, Mormons absolutely do worship Jesus Christ.

Mormons believe that they are Christians because they believe the Bible to be the word of God. They believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and is God. They believe that Jesus Christ suffered and died to save us from our sins. They believe that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the only path to come to the Father. They believe that they are following the teachings of Jesus to the best of their ability. The true name of the church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. "Mormon" is a nickname given to the church by its enemies.
When you try to make the claim that Mormons are not Chritians because their beliefs differ somewhat from your own beliefs, you are using a double-edged sword. For with whatever means you judge, so you shall be judged. Mormons are willing to call you Christian if you are trying hard to follow Jesus, and believe him to be your Savior. But if you judge the Mormons on the basis of whether all of their beliefs are correct, you set yourself up for judgment by God. What if it happens that some of your beliefs about Jesus are mistaken? Judging by your standards then you aren't a Christian. Are you really willing to take the chance that you might not be mistaken in some point of doctrine? Are you going to say the Baptists are not Christian because they differ from what you think is right? Or perhaps you think the Baptists are right, but every other church is wrong because they disagree with the Baptists on some point or other. How do you know that your intrepretation of the Bible is the correct one? There are thousands of different Christian churches you know, each with a different idea. Maybe they are all wrong. Maybe you should take the Christian view and not judge who is not Christian who claims to be one.

Mormons do not worship Jesus Christ as God, they do not pray to Him, they do not have a personal relationship with Him, therefore, Mormons are not Christians.

Read the Bible instead of the dictionary to learn that true disciples of Jesus (Christians) worship Him as God, that's more than just believing even demons believe. Mormons are not His sheep, they do not hear His voice, they do not follow Him, instead they "follow the prophet" and revelations from angels and "the dead."

Funny, most of these previous answers seem as though they truly dont know what they are talking about. Mormonism has received a criticism for some of its eccentric orthodoxy, but I would ask you to seek the answers from a Morman. Do not count on people who have no rights to claim religious wisdom. But, to follow up on what others are saying...Mormanism teaches of the Christ...which does make it a Christian religion.

Well, I'm LDS/Mormon and I believe that Jesus died so we could all be saved so doesn't that make me a Christian? I consider myself Christian. This is the definition of Christian from the Merriam Webster Online Dictionary 1 a : one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ. So, by definition, since I believe in Jesus and his teachings, I am Christian, am I not? Another thing, if we didn't believe in Jesus, why would we have his name in the title of our church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

In the Bible, the word "Christians" applied to followers of Christ. So, if a person follows Christ, that is, believes who He is (God in the flesh [that's what "incarnate" means]) and why he came (to pay the price for man's sin), and what He did (die for our sins and rise from the dead), and if he accepts Him as his Lord and Savior, then, yes, he is a Christian. Check carefully what Mormons believe...I think you will find a difference between their beliefs and Christian beliefs.

Yes, like others stated here, there many myths the mormons invented. One of their myths argues that Native Americans were really blood relatives of Israelites that came from Palestine.
New DNA technology was tried to prrove the connection but instead it prooved there was no relation between Native Americans and anyone from Palestine, Israel or the surrounding.
