It's so bizarre. I don't believe in the Christian God, but I've never told a Christian that he/she 'doesn't exist'... yet this proposition is freely bandied about as regards atheists... Is this a childish attempt at half-understood existentialism?

And is it not highly ironic to find a Christian believer condemning other beliefs for not having 'absolute proof'?

Just wondering if there's any one else out there who gets told that they 'don't exist'...

Angry_Transsexual: see? Even in answering this question, you do it. Do you think that 'atheist' means 'believes in nothing'?

No. I'm constantly flabbergasted by the amount of people who don't "believe" in atheists.

I blame this on the spread of misinformation (though recently I've been thinking of changing over to a greater use of the word "propaganda") and a lack of education on the basic definition of the word "atheist."

It's amazing how frequently some of these people will use the same arguments, time and time again, even after having the actual situation explained to them in great detail. (I refer, mostly, to the now comical "Y R there still Monkeys?" questions.)

We would imagine that armed with more information the nature of the questions and statements would change. Amazingly, they don't. I don't know if this is due to an inability to understand what we say or if there is comprehension coupled with resistance to new ideas.

I thrust my fists against the posts and still insist they don't see ghosts.

According to Christians, Atheists and Agnostics are worse than someone of another belief system. They have no ability to just let people believe as they wish to believe as long as they're not hurting anyone. As long as we exist, they feel threatened and it's easy to blame all of the world's evils on those who don't believe.

Quite frankly, with the exception of Mormons, I've met more Christians with questionable values and morals than any other group of people. They can always break the rules and then ask forgiveness while the rest of us must try to get along with everyone else HERE and NOW.

But here in America, where the Christians rule with a mighty hand, our voice will soon be silenced by the growing theocracy. They see nothing wrong with silencing us by adding God to every blessed thing they see, all the while telling us they're persecuted.

You,atheists, make hateful statements that our God doesn't exist which is childish especially when you don't belong in a section where majority of beliefs is in God. Get a clue! These statements are made against atheists for them to try and think about their position as a non believers. If you say that there is no God we as Christians believe you don't exist either because he created us and we acknowledge him and you don't therefore we don't acknowledge YOU! You don't have absolute proof that God doesn't exist and nor does science. Atheists are very offensive and ask offensive questions.

Don't believe I've ever heard that used. As a Christian myself, though, I understand where you're coming from. One of my biggest pet-peeves is when people (Christians, atheists, anybody) make rash, harsh, and un-loving statements declaring that they are right and everyone else is wrong. Especially without any attempt to back up the statement with any reasonable thought. It's just hurtful and accomplishes nothing positive. Sometimes people just don't think.

Yeah, I've seen it several times now. Things like "atheists don't exist", I've found it odd, but funny. I do not expect much logic from some people here in YA. And the "they don't believe in nothing" argument is quite common as well, some people need to get a dictionary.

Of course you exist. Our beliefs differ. But I know you exist.
...what exactly are you asking???

There can't really be multiple "truths" can there? (ones that contradict each other... or in this case beliefs or religion) Logically, there can only be one "right". You WILL find people being very passionate about what they believe in; and sometimes offensively. Correct that, mostly always offensively.
From my perspective as a Christian, atheism completely rejects God. (Yes I know you reject any/all god/s, but as their IS only one true god, I'll be referring to Him.) According to the bible anyone who rejects God, is separated from him forever - this is Hell. I'm NOT 'happy' to sit by while you all 'go to hell' (Please excuse the phrase)
Put it this way, if you knew that a bridge was out, and you herd someone planning to go that way, you'd let them know about it.
Especially if they were going to drive that way regardless of what their eyes were telling them.
I personally haven't told anyone they don't exist. Sounds very intolerant to me. I might tell you all about Christ, and write an essay in the process, but I do my best to treat everyone as people - How I'd hope you'd treat me if you were answering a question of mine.

I'm a Christian that's pro-choice and for gay rights.
I get told all the time I don't exist. None of my friends at church exist either....
Tell you what... You can exist to me if I can exist to you... What do ya' say?
