OK, here's my advice. Depending on how much patience, time, and willingness you have to raise a puppy, pick your dog with that in mind. A bigger puppy will pee alot more, and is harder to keep after. Certain breeds are harder to train than others. Some dogs are more active and are much harder to train, so make sure you don't get a dog that you don't have the ability to let them get their customary level of exercise -- for example, if you plan to keep your dog indoors and walk them 1-2x per day, don't get a border collie. If a dog is underchallenged athletically, this will result in behavioral problems.

Make sure u have lots of patience, play with them alot, start training them ASAP (its way easier the younger u get them going), and remember dogs train for food. Don't bother yelling at them when they pee, cuz no matter what anyone says, yelling at them after the fact does absolutely nothing except make them permanently afraid of you. If and only if when you catch them in the act, THEN you should let them have it, cuz they will put 2 and 2 together. Otherwise reprimanding after the fact is useless and harmful (the dog does not think the next time, "oh I better not do this again, I will get yelled at.") The best way to get them into good patterns is to reward them for good behavior.

Make sure the house is puppy proof. Nothing on the floor the dog can get into. make sure to have toys. Make sure not to have all the toys ont he ground at once, as this may over stimulate the dog. Take things slowly. Don't maul the dog. It can only be left alone for its age in months plus one (2 months, three hours). Take it out to pee and poo 5 mins after every time it eats.
Feed it three times a day a good food (one that has meat as three of the first 5 ingrediants on the bag)

GO TO www.openpaw.org and download (for free) Ian Dunbar's e-book... Before you get your puppy... then I recommend purchasing After you get your puppy.... Both are SPECTACULAR! With a Rotie mix you are going to hear alot of dominance "mumbo jumbo" from well meaning friends... Patricia Mconnell has an excelent mini book "how to be your dogs leader..." (The other end of the leash is good too.... and How to behave so your Dog behaves)

Take puppy to Vet right away and start the Distemper vaccines. If the breeder say "he has all his shots" THEY ARE LYING!!! I am so tired of people getting puppies and then not getting vaccines so then the puppy gets parvo and the people say "what should I do?" GET THE VACCINES!!!!!!!

BIG rule #1: don't spoil him/her!
other tips: be supportive of whatever your puppy does...be playful but not aggresive (like my mom says, "kisses, no bites")...and just enjoy the fact that you own an animal that will love you and trust you for as long as it lives and for as long as you love it and trust it back.

pull up the carpet! ours is 7 weeks old, cute as a button but tons of piddles and poops. put there nose in the piddles pop them tell them no and put them out. make sure that every time they wake up you take it out to tinkle. my friend used a cage for hers but the dog still piddled on the carpet. good luck and enjoy the puppy breath.
