Thank you for this, this is a great question! The first thing is to get to know your neighbors if you don't already. People are less likely to commit crimes against each other and allow crimes if they are on good terms with each other. Make sure that the cops are cruising down your street 2 to 3 times a day. If they're not, you and your neighbors need to complain at the closest precinct or go to the next town hall meeting. Keep lights on at night. Also push for community recreation activities, they tend to keep people out of trouble.

Neighborhood watches. Monitoring in masses who becomes next judge of the trial court. Don't let it be anyone who lets all criminals wiggle away unjailed, unpunished. Get the public to back you up and demand stiffer punishments when you see people getting away Scott free with theft, planned theft, when you see people lie more often than they tell the truth. Some people deserve a stiff sentence! Need to be restrained.

Most police departments will tell you that illegal drugs are the #1 reason for crimes in the US. So, get rid of drugs to get rid of crime.
That's why my company developed the 100 Days Drug Education Program for communities. Information is in my profile.

get the police out on the street where they belong/not setting inside the police station like they do in Uhrichsville Ohio, but then how are they going to keep up on the sports. and yes it was brought up once and they always have a good story like; we have to make out our reports,

really get to know your nieghbors and learn to get along with them.
The more you know your neighbors the better off the neighborhood will be because you know eachother and generally what kind of people you are.
