Actually, it is not mandatory in every state - I live in NH and it is only mandatory if there is a lein on your vehicle.

If you own it outright then, you do not need insurance.

having lived in florida, I can tell you, yes, it is mandatory.
You will have to show proof of insurance at time of registration.
If you let your insurance lapse, there is a significant fine that
you will have to pay before you are allowed to renew your registration the following year. The insurance companies and DMV computers are hooked together. The aforementioned fine
is very very common in Florida.

Yes, it is mandatory in florida. there are some states in the U.S. that does not require insurance coverage unless the car is being financed.

Car Insurance is manditory in all 50 states, DC, and all Canadian provinces & territories.

Indeed insurance is required by all states. Some enforce it better, but all require it.
