Hmmm... it seems many people have alot of opinions.
I am an adult, I own my own business and I am a mom. And I have dreadlocks. They are clean, well washed, smell lovely and look very nice. I am regularly asked to model my hair and am told how nice they look by strangers constantly ( its actually annoying at times). So please, ignore all the nasty comments by ignorant people who have met or seen a few dreads and think they know anything about them. Also, ignore the theory that dreads are exclusively a "black" or "rasta" thing. Anyone who has studied northern european culture and history would know better.
As for whether you should start growing them now- If you are still living at home, I would suggest you wait untill you move out and go to college. Dont freak your mom out- if it really bothers her, show her respect and just wait. She will appreciate it and it will be a sign of your maturity. And when you do grow them in, keep em CLEAN! good luck!

OH MY LORD NO! Dreadlocks were made by people who's hair was made for that kind of style. A White guy with Dreads would be laughable at best!

No, white people look stupid with dreadlocks, and some ethnicities find it insulting.

Dreads on a cracker!!! That's a definite fashion don't. I have a white friend in Florida that "rocks dreads" and he just looks like a clown. I think you're mom's right on this one.

I think they look pretty gross on anybody and I would suggest not trying to convince your mom to make you look like some white suburbia rastafarian-wannabe filth hippy.

i think it ok. but it all come down to your style. gothik,emo,punk are some styles that fit with a white guy who wears dreads. but dont wear clothes that you would wear in callifornia cause they dont mix very well
