Josiah comes from the Hebrew language and means "found by Jah" (one of the form of the name of God). The best known Josiah in the Bible was a descendent of David who became the King of Judah when he was still a child, and is considered one of the "good" king. There was a revival of worship of God during this reign, and he had idols removed from the land and restore the celegrating of the Passover.

Josiah means "whom Jehovah heals". He was the son of David who found the Law and restored worship of Jehovah in Israel.

My Bible Dictionary says that the name Josiah translates to "Jehovah heals."
Babycenter.com agrees with the other answerer that it means "Fire of God."

My little bro's friend's name is Josiah Davis. Creepy. I think it's an okay name. Not the best.
