This is no way to cover black. You will have to strip the color, I had the same problem and used Loreal color stripper, and I got a reddish brown color (sort of brassy) that I dyed over with an ash brown. The results were okay, but if you can afford it have a professional color strip.

Have a professional stylist strip out the black dye. They'll follow up with additional color and toning...and an extra strength conditioning regime - all that coloring and bleaching will cause a lot of damage to your hair. If you are still interested in a darker color, ask about toning down the black and applying a brown rinse and, maybe, pulling out a few highlights. Sometimes these things require the opinion, coaxing and skill of a trained stylist.

before you re-dye it wash your hair in anti dandruff shampoo a couple of times and see if that lightens it enough. it strips the colour if you have to re-dye it get a burgundy another dark brown will make it go darker the burgundy should change the depth of the black even though it may still be dark the sun and other light will brighten it or go to a hairdresser to see what they can do

you can try to wash it w/ baking soda. Just treat the baking soda as you would a shampoo. It will strip it alot of the darkness. Be sure to sleep w/ a good conditioner on your hair also- just to replenish what the soda may have taken out. Dont dye again- it will only grab the color and make it darker

It should lighten up. Then next time buy something a little lighter. Don't buy anything that says warm or deep, it will have red in it. If you go with an ash color, you can have a good chance of having a green cast to it.

dang sorry to say if its a perm. dye no you can .......and it will not wash out........if you try and lighten it with another dye you will get red.,your best bet is to seek a salon and have them do some high lights ...that will tone it down and will look good...or tell them you need a color corrector done.........that can be expensive...see a salon dear
