I have a 486 laptop that I want to use just for browsing. there is no CD just a floppy, Can I copy the linux files to the hard drive and then by booting on the bootdisk floppy can I install from there? I'm considering using slackware. If anyone has any better ideas or very simple directions I would appreciate it

I had Ubuntu put in, and downloaded Linux Mint.iso I used Ubuntu to create a bootable USB disk, utilising the Linux Mint.iso - and now i am going to boot Mint on computers at artwork (the position i don't have admin rights... and no flash put in.. and so on) purely so that they only artwork. i am going to also set up from the USB.

I am a slackware user and I have done this quite a few times.

Create partitions - format - copy files - boot from boot disk - edit /etc/lilo.conf - run lilo - reboot - pray - live happily ever after.

Once a slacker, always a slacker!

for absolutley no hardware except the hard drive I reccomend taking the hard drive out and putting in another laptop that is linux, maybe a friends, (2nd HDD) and copying the files.
