There can be many differences in counterfeit money and real money depending on how good the counterfeit is. There are only a few things counterfeiters have been unable to reproduce.
#1- Real money is printed on linen paper. There are tiny red and blue fibers in them. If it's real, you should be able to use your fingernail to move or pick out the threads. If it's counterfeit, the red and blue threads won't be real...they'll be printed on there.
#2- Real money has a strip in it that can actually be removed. Counterfeit money may appear to have the strip, but it is just printed on the paper and not removable.
And those markers are not accurate. I have had them mark real money as counterfeit and vice versa. So unreliable most banks do not use them.

get a counterfeit marker. if it turns dark or black, its fake. if it stays light, its real. AND/OR look for the security strip and the water mark by holding it up to the light. if one or both are missing, its fake. if both are there its real. also look for the 'new color' money. 20's are green, and 10's are pink. those are the only 2 'color' money i have seen so far. i believe 50's will becoming out really soon, and i think i've heard those will be blue.

counterfeit can be detected by a special machine with the UV lights. Normally this machine is available from the banks. Places like supermarket, hotel and etc.. are using them for counterfeit detection.

They sell a special pen. Haven't you ever seen someone take your money and put a mark on it. If it turns a certian color, then it's fake. Plus you could just hold it up to the light and see the speacial holigrams. That's one reason clubs have that black light, so they can easliy spot fake ID's and Money.
