guitar & drums.

There is no best instrument. Instruments are different from each other, not better. You can get different instruments to do different things. Drums are for rhythm, violins are for melodies, and so on. It depends what you want to do and what sound you want. If you want a really low-pitched sound, then the trumpet won't take you much far, for example. If you want a soprano voice, on the other hand, the trumpet is a good choice, if you want a bright, vigorous sound.

We must admit that the piano is, in this sense, the most complete - not the best, ok? - instrument there is because it has a wide range of notes but especially because it can explore all the elements of music: rhythm, melody, and harmony. No wonder most composers use it to help them write music.

Well, I'd like to disagree with a few people, as usual.

Drums and guitar? Please. There's a limit to how expressive you can get with those. Most drum and guitar music is repetitive and unoriginal.

I won't count voice as an instrument, since it comes built in.

The instruments that are the most expressive are those that come closest to the timbre and phrasing of the human voice. These include violin, cello, and trombone.

And the Rhodes 88 is just killah.

I would have to say that the double reeds are the sweetest instruments ever .. because of their character they bring out. The oboe can have much emotion and such a pretty enticing sound.. the bassoon has a mellow happy sound.

Of course.. now that I think of it the most amazing instrument I love ot hear and want to play is the violin or cello.. because of how bittersweet they sound.

Piano. It has a larger range than most other instruments, and the experts can coax out just about any quality sound that you are looking for, from a french horn, to bell tones...to an entire orchestra.

The violin. It has an incredible range of expression. It phrases like the human voice but is much more technically proficient. Small and expressive nuances of dynamic, tone color, intensity, are part of its pallette.

Piano, because you can make so much beautiful music with it all by itself. You dont need a band or orchestra backing it up to make something great.
