Christians LOVE pollution because the more they trash the planet, the closer they think we are to "the End Times" and the return in glory of their "Lard and Saver", Jesus H. Christ. Pity they'll be drowning in a sea of trash after all the ice caps have melted wondering where the hell their made up god went off to...

Which church? Every church has different tennets and therefore will likely have different stands regarding polution. One common theme among most religions is "moderation in all things" in some respect or another. This would imply that most religions would take a stand to not use more than you need and therefore limit the polution produced. Most religions also teach to respect each other and what God (in whatever form) has blessed you with. This would imply we need to take care of each other and the earth, to show respect for the planet we have been given.
I think in general churches would be against polution and for protecting the environment.

It depends on what 'church' you're talking about. The Christian right doesn't care about the environment one single bit. They believe that God gave believers 'dominion' over the earth and all the plants and critters that inhabit it:
Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth and over all the creatures that move along the ground.'"
They are not concerned with despoiling the planet, or screwing up the weather... or even increasing the national debt far beyond our ability to pay it back. They don't think that the world will be around long enough to have to worry about paying it back. These bone-headed idiots think that we are at the 'End of Times', and the world will come to an end within the next 50 years... perhaps even within their own lifetimes. They are waiting with great anticipation to be sucked up bodily into heaven, and to meet Jesus, descending from Heaven, in the clouds. By despoiling the earth, they think that they are fulfilling God's will, and they are awaiting the end of the world with great anticipation, when the Lord will get them (the righteous) safely out of the way, and the non-believers and sinners will suffer the vengeful wrath of God.
Even the Iraq war is seen as a 'good' thing... part of the setting-up of the proper conditions for the Battle of Armageddon... the final conflict between good and evil... to take place.
Scientific facts are irrelevant... a distraction. They only thing that they like about science is that it holds the capacity to deliver into their hands, the tools that they need to facilitate bringing our world to its promised end.
Be afraid... be very afraid. These magical-thinking nut-jobs presently make up nearly half of the elected and appointed offices in the executive and the legislative branches of the US government.
They give the APPEARANCE of denying science, because science undermines their ability to lead their gullible minions (sheeple) around by the nose. They advance their POLITICAL power through the guise of bogus RELIGIOUS issues. In that light, it is necessary to maintain the illusion/delusion of religious dogma in order to keep their base of political power intact. To have the sheeple thinking for themselves, gaining actual scientific knowledge, employing critical thought processes to evaluate actual facts, would undermine their whole game. The flock must be kept intact... and the only way that the shepherds can do that is to keep them in the dark... keep them from 'eating from the tree of knowledge'.
"You will be assimilated... resistence is futile." Oh... no... that's the Borg. Or is it...?

When God created man and placed him in the garden God gave him dominion over all the beasts of the field, and every living creature on Earth (Paraphrase from Genesis). To me that implies a responsibility towards conservation. That does not mean do not pollute, that does not mean do not use resources, it just means to use them - but WISELY ... however, if you mean the "church" as a political entity - I do not believe they have a consolidated statement.

The Christian Biblical teaching is that we should not pollute or destroy the earth.
Humans are God's highest creation on earth. He appointed us as his stewards (care-takers) of his creation. We are responsible for the earth and should not pollute or destroy it.
In fact, interestingly, there is a verse in the Bible, in the book of Revelation (I have to locate it) which says that God will specifically punish those who destroy the earth...
The Christian God is an artist. As an artist, he has created truly beautiful mountains, streams, waterfalls, oceans, plants, trees, flowers, birds, butterflies, animals.
If you respect an artist, you do not destroy or trash her painting or sculpture.
Similarly, as Christians who love God, we are to appreciate his beautiful creation and treat it with respect (not worship, but respect) and appreciation. And we are to take care of it rather than destroy or pollute it.
Cordially,
John

God made the earth for man to use, and we're definitely using it how ever we feel like. So he must not have a position.
