Also, the problem is that they are being blocked from being open-minded.which is very important to be when interacting with foriegners. and it helps make better judgements on others. and on the things that concern the whole world. it is important that americans must be open minded since they are the worlds superpower.

In answer to crad010@sbcg no America did not invent the car, that would be the Germans, not the best ambassador for your cause.

Seriously the education system there is very poor due to the need to give the rich tax cuts. This fact makes the gullible ones easy pray for the religious fundamentalists which only compound the problem and do actually brain wash people.

I don't think I'd call us brainwashed, just ignorant. Brainwashed people are ones who despite reliable information contradicting their beliefs, continue thinking the way they do about the world. Ignorant people are ones who just don't have information to base their judgements on.

Why I say we are ignorant and not brainwashed is because we receive our news from just 5 major companies (the four National Broadcast Networks and AOL Time Warner), and the overwhelming majority of people don't realize that a lot of censoring goes on, though not in the direct sense, but via cutting funding to shows and programs.

We used to have laws (the fairness doctrine) saying that these media corporations had a social contract with the public and that in order for them to acquire / retain their licenses for use of the airwaves, they had to provide a diverse source of news coverage on relevant topics.

Then President Reagan came along in the 1980's, and changed the requirements for the broadcast media to operate from "provide a service to the people" to "give the government a bunch of money." Now we have no reliable / diverse news sources that are widely available to the public.

That was what started the ball rolling anyway. That we're pretty lazy too doesn't help things much either.

Those of you who are thinking of pointing to the internet as a news source, you might want to fully think that one though. News has to be gathered by reporters, and the bulk of the news that you find on the web still comes from those 5 companies because they are the ones that pay the salaries of the bulk of the reporters in this country.

The media is trying very hard to take advantage of our weak brains. Go watch some of the BS that comes out of Fox News Channel, then search some websites and find information that countradicts Fox News Channels opinionated anchorman and talk show hosts. You'll freak at the gross misrepresentations that these Media Companies try to pry into our spongy craniums.

Its a bit harsh to include all Americans as one but i have to say, when Bush was re-elected i just thought whats wrong with those people? Why cant they see what we can see? It totally changed my opinion of Americans. But hey, they're not all the same. Take "The Strokes" for instance, the best USA Export for years. They're not all bible bashing dumb arses!

How dare you ask this question in the U.S. branch! The way of approaching things? Excuse me, but weren't we the ones who invented the automobile? Are you mad? Really strange, huh? don't you think us Americans think that you foreign stiff-***ed, little know-it-alls are a bit weird? Think about that next time you insult an entire culture like that. Get the heck out of here!

Most Americans I know have a problem with stereotyping and thinking all people with one similarity must have everything else in common. Hey wait, you have that same problem. Guess it's not unique among humans.

Absolutely. It's actually pretty frightening if you consider the way this country is rolling and who it's ruled by. The news even is a culmination of brainwashed propaganda.
