why do so many of the answers on this thing just seem mean and hateful/ insulting

Because some people have nothing better to do with their time than be mean spirited.

I think generally there are alot of hateful, mean-spirited, rude people out there, not just on yahoo answers. Part of it may be due to unhappiness and misery and they think that by making others feel worse, they feel better. What little gratification they get from putting down or hurting others in some way does nothing to change their pathetic situation or problems that they are having. It's just a distraction from the things they need to deal with. It's easier to do that than to face the truth.

Because there are just way too many stupid people in this world. they only thing they can undertsand is hate, so why not give it to them. You ask a hateful question and you get a hateful answer.

Ignorance, and the desire to get a quick 2 points.
It takes more time to look up something for someone, then jab a few words on the keyboard.
Scroll past that, and reward someone that gives you a good answer with 10 points. You might even take a few monents to review the ANSWER'S other questions, so see if they are civil human beings. Then give them FIVE STARs for their answer.

Yahoo! answers is the first of it's kind; it is a noble invention of modern, computerized, and globalized mankind. As a result, there is no established etiqute for such an abstract and new medium.

their just punks with to much time on their hands or their mad and want to take it out on someone on here or someone has a friend over and their saying something like(hey say this that will be so funny hu hu ha ha ha )basically jerks and some are just plain crazy as hell every town has them you probably know some of them but that's just my opinion i could be wrong.
