I used to live in US, and now I am in Canada. When I was in US I had my insurance for 2.5 years. Then I discontinued the insurance as I was leaving the US. Now I am in Canada and would have a car soon. My insurance was discontinued for more then a year. Would that hurt my insurance record. ?

No, if you tell them you didnt have a car. They go by your driving record. State Farm sells in US and Canada, and they go back 3 years for credit. There are discounts with most companies if you are with them 3+years . You would just not be eligible for those discounts.

As long as you didn't have a car when you cancelled the insurance, that will NOT hurt you. When they ask you why you cancelled the insurance, you just tell them that you sold the car!

They don't like to see gaps in insurance, as they don't know what you may have done in that time that you might be sued for.
