I'm refering to those of us 25-30 looking back at those 24-18. This question is asking more about maturity level and actions. I see some of the things being done and said by the younger age group that I would have gotten beaten by my parents over if I so much as thought of doing them.

Gosh, I hope not. I know exactly what you are talking about, but if they are as ignorant and silly as they seem, our future is dire. I'd prefer to believe we looked just as ignorant and silly to previous generations. In fact, I'm a little older than you, and I have to say, when I was your age, people younger than me (your generation) seemed really ignorant. But now here you are making sense and showing evaluative thought. Also, I am lucky to know a handful of young adults who are really very mature, thoughtful, thinking human beings, so I hope I'm right in believing the ignorant, silly people just make themselves more noticeable than the intelligent, mature ones.

What you are seeing is the results of the lack of discipline. If a parent so much as look at their child the wrong way, they could get in trouble for abuse. Society has stopped parents from giving children so much as a whack on the butt. Kids know this and know they can get away with just about anything that doesn't warrant an arrest. I am 60, discipline for me as a child was a strap. I don't think you should hit kids with a strap, but I do think something has to be done for stricter discipline or our kids of tomorrow will be jail birds of the future.

I am nearing the end of my 30's and have met some very nice intelligent adults in their younger 20's. But most seem to be punks. The world is not getting to be a better place with the dumbing down of the school systems.

As you gain experiences you see the results of actions. Things that you did at 18-24 you see what the effect is years later. As young people we live for the moment. If we fall we believe that we will be able to pick ourselves up dust ourselves off and start again. As we get older we look back and realize that some of the times we picked our selves up from we were quite lucky.
We also forget that we were young once.

You are right I may be a lot older than 30 but I do have a 13 yr old. When I started on this it really opened up my eyes to what is going on in his world. I can't believe some of the things that are asked and said.

I can't answer for you, but when I think about all of the ignorant punks I see on a daily basis (and there are certainly no dearth of punks these days) I have to try very hard to remember that I too was once a bit of an ignorant punk myself. Things really don't change all that much... there is nothing new under the sun.

but the question is.......would it be "right" for your parents to beat you up? I think not. The teens these days are doing the same thing (maybe a bit differently) than we did years and years ago...(I am 45). It's not what "most" of them are doing, it's our attitude toward their actions when we mature and get older.

I agree. I think that maybe it's just a part of growing up. It's your way of accepting that you are getting older. Every generation thinks it's better than the one that came before it and better than the one that came after it. I feel the same way and I think, 'I wasn't that stupid' but maybe i was. No, no I wasn't. Kids are idiots.

Yes kids today are very disrespectful . I have volunteered to teach elementary, middle and high school and they do disrespect and talk back. I bet a lot of them will end up in jail when they are teens.
