Yep, different species of flea. There are just under 2,200 species of fleas worldwide.
North American Fleas:
Ctenocephalides felis (cat flea)
Ctenocephalides canis (dog flea)
Pulex simulans (small animal flea)
Echidnophaga gallinacea (poultry flea)
However, almost all the fleas that you see on your dog or cat are the cat flea. It's bite causes fleabite dermatitis in dogs, cats and humans. The cat flea afflicts more than 50 species of animals.
Doesn't it just make you want to scratch?

Nope no difference, but there is a difference between animal fleas and sand fleas although animals can pick up sand fleas also and bring them into your home so can people on their clothes. Sand fleas are much larger than animal fleas.

Identical Fleas but different shampoo certainly not EVER put dog flea shampoo on a cat it kills them, the toxins are to excessive and results/ Poison the cats blood movement. I watched a documentary on it once negative cat it was once very sad so ensure you tell people not to get them blended up.

i doubt it since medications can be used on both cat and dog. there are certains meds for dog only and cat only but that has nothing to do with the flea itself.

None at all. Fleas are pretty indiscriminant about what they bite, as long as they can get through the skin.
