I bought my first wide screen tv. It's a 45" Panasonic LCD Projection TV. What they didn't tell me when I bought it was that about every 18 months I would have to buy a new bulb for it. The bulb is only available from Panasonic and costs $450.00. They have a 30 warranty on the bulb. The manual tells you to have a bulb on hand. So, I have a new bulb that I got a couple of months ago and haven't had to use it yet. What happens if when I install it the bulb doesn't work? The 30 day warranty is up and I haven't even had it out of the box yet. Make sure you find out about future costs before you buy. The picture on my Panasonic is great but I would have made a different decision if I had known about the very expensive bulb.

I've been researching this for months. i guess it depends on what your looking to spend. normal tv or hdtv. lcd vs plasma etc. because im looking to buy extremly soon. this is the most honest answer i can give you. Every TV has a differnt quality of picture, You have to dedicate at least 2-3 days to go in every store you can possibly think of,even out of the way local furniture stores and look at all of them because when it comes down to it. it's all a matter of personal preference.

some people like bright colorful pictures while others like nonbright but sharp pictures. suggestion take a notebook and pen and a little flashlight when you go. write down the maker and model number of the tv's you like the picture of and that are in your price range so you can research them online and compare prices in other stores. view them from all angles and distances. have the people at the store show you the tv's playing a HD source signal and a analog, normal tv signal. many people don't know this but some hdtv's look like crap when displaying a normal tv signal. shine the flashlight on the screen to see if it has a bad glare problem. ask about burn in, sun fade, anything you can think of. research the difference between 1080p, 1080i, 720p on the internet. i would suggest not getting 1080p just due to the fact that most tv companies will not be broadcasting this for a good 5-7 years and the bluray players coming out are about 1000 and are the only things capable of outputting 1080p signal.

buying a big screen tv hd or non is a huge choice. stay away from walmart, best buy, circuity city. although these are great places to view and compare the most tv's I think their service is crap. the prices are way over normal msrp. I like sears they have good prices and extended warraty plus price matching with a 10% discount if they do have to match. my personal choice for my price limit of $2000 after searching. I just found the Hitachi 55" 55VS69 today and it immediatly jumped to number 1 on my list after months of searching and comparing for it's bright colorful pictures. others i was looking at was Sony 50" KDFE - 50A10, JVC 52" HD52G787, Toshiba 46" 46HM95.

with all the tv's i work with the sony bravia has the clearest picture. however they are pricey i currently have the 40 bravia lcd for around 2100$ but the picture quality will compensate for a steep price. here is a third party review for best tv's to buy. even though sony is 3rd i would take it over 1 or 2 just by the picture quality that i've seen. go to best buy, fry's or whatever store is near and look at the picture for yourself. don't let them sell you what you don't like. good luck.
