Poorly done?

No, seriously, the choices are rare, medium rare, medium, medium well, and well done.

Each has a definition. They run from seared outside and cold inside to cooked gray all the way though. Everyone has their own preferences.

There are soooo many different ways it's not even funny. In addition to rare. medium rare, medium, mid-well, and well. You can get you steaks charred (with a black crust on both sides), Black and blue (cooked on a cast iron skillet with cajun seasonings) or you can go with something more typical, like dry blue cheese and minced garlic. If you are in a restaurant just ask your server or consult the menu.

the only way to eat a good steak is medium rare. cooked any further you are not experiencing the pleasure of the taste and texture of steak. might as well eat leather if you order a steak cooked further than medium rare.

my fav is black and blue...let the steak get room temp about 45 minutes meanwhile heat a cast iron pan up for a long time till lightly smoking hot bout 15 minutes and (high flame or highest setting on a electric stove...pat the steak dry ,salt and pepper yer steak and put in the pan it will smoke for 1 one minute the 1 minute the other side...this works awesome w a strip steak about a inch thick...serve w ground horse radish

before well done (no pink at all) theres:

medium well (little pink)
medium (little more pink)
medium rare (pink, getting towards red, but not real bloody)
rare (red, bloody, and not even all that hot in the middle)
"pittsburgh" rare (seared on the outside, still raw and cold in the middle)

rare which is barely cooked.
medium rare, which is pretty red in the middle
medium, which has moderate red in the middle
medium well, which has a little red in the middle

(The longer a steak cooks, the tougher it gets)

Rare which is bloody inside. Medium rare which is pink inside. done which is cooked on the inside.
