Depends on what you are trying to do. I wish I had took the time to learn up a little better in school. But I dropped out in the 7th grade. I tried three times to pass the GED and failed each time because of the spelling part of the test. You can not fail any part of the test. It don't matter if you are the smartest person ever born on Earth if you fail one part no matter what part you fail the whole test. So I will just have to keep my job making more money then most people with a BA. The only problem is it took me 20 years to get my job by proving myself when I could have no common sense at all and completed school and a little college and went right in the job I have now.
So like I said it depends on what you are trying to do? No one looks at what you really know they just want to see those fake papers you got off the Internet showing how smart you are.
Do it however you like but school is better because if I lost my job I may never get a second job because you can't be hired if you did not make it through high school. I did take 4 years in business but I can't have the credits because I was not able to spell and get that worthless piece of paper (GED). Math is my bag and excel makes that even more simple. But I can't spell.

Knowledge IS power. Knowledge is something you acquire through books but also through experience. You can gain knowledge at any time in your life. I think to make through life with the least "damage", you need to have a good education and some street smarts.
I have a BS.

I have an MBA, but I know a lot of attorneys, doctors, etc. that totally lack common sense.
I do believe that knowledge is power, but I also believe that you need to look at the context of the situation.

I think it all depends on what you do with that knowledge, be it book smarts or street smarts. But it IS true that knowledge is power.
As Balthasar Gracian said:
"Saber o escuchar a los que saber".
("Know or listen to those who know.")

I know a lot of people who are book smart but are poor with their social skills. When I see socially dysfuntional people they look "off". I think both are important because it makes for a well rounded person.

*realists keep the "world running" so that I can see and share what they cannot*
both are important...but street wise/creative/whatever you want to call it..is important as well
but w/o ppl who are super educated, the world could not keep running
