My suggestion is, whatever you do, don't make it too big.She will be 5 so have no more than five children there. Also, although our family loves the celebration of each persons birthday, if you make it too big, there will be nothing for her to look forward to when she is older. You could have a home party with 5 little children. Ask their parents to send alone a change of clothes or a bathing suit. Then, have a "Bubble Party". Get one of those huge bubble wands, plus a bubble wand for each child. You help them make the giant bubbles. Hose them off and let them change back into their dry clothes before going. Before the bubble blowing, you could read them a story about bubbles(their are a few cute ones out there,or some bubble poems. Her cake could also have a bubble theme, although not necessary. Just remember, while she is young, keep it small and simple. While out in the car,my daughter and I followed a limo. to a church, hoping to see a bride. A little girl going to her First Communion got out of the limo. An example of too much, too soon.Leave children something to look forward to. Have fun!!!

Why not your own house? We have the best girl bday parties at our house. On a nice day - we'll do a lot of stuff outside. On hot days, everyone goes into the sprinkler. My daughter's 8 1/2 - most of the moms are still doing this.

Chuck E Cheeses, skating parties, fun world, etc...they always end up costing over $100 - not including cake, bday outfit, decorations, thank you cards, etc.

Last year I had an American Girl Tea Party - it was a hit! We've also done movie sleepovers, campouts, and just plain ol' bday parties - where instead of hiring a clown, I just asked my goofy brother-in-law to amuse a couple kids for awhile.

I've always been one to save what I can, have a party that everyone is amazed at - and not go broke!

But you can also try McDonald's - they also do birthday parties now. Complete with play gym.

I'm not sure of the size of your area but I live in a bigger city and there are so many options these days! My daughter is 7 and we've had a party at a teahouse where they dress up all the gils and serve them tea and snacks. We have also had a party at the park and rented a bouncehouse. The kids had a lot of fun and I didn't have to worry about a lot of games. Also, places like Michaels and JoAnn (craft places) will do parties so the kids can make their own crafts. There are even pottery places that will have small parties.
If you live in a smaller are you can do some of these activities at your own house! Since she is going to be 5, I would try to keep the number of kids down.

At home!!! Invite all her friends and your relatives to your house. Get some simple food and drinks on a table. Play games which everyone could play. Send in the clowns! Take pictures or video of the party for your daughter to keep and reminisce until she has a daughter, too, to have a view of the past.

For my daughter's fifth birthday we went to the park. I reserved a set of tables near the climbing structure. I served finger food, sandwiches, veggies, etc, that the kids could nibble on when they wanted. I brought sidewalk chalk, bubble blowers, plenty of balls, and sand toys. I had two organized activities the first was a pinata, but instead of loose toys I had little bags (4 per kid) with each guest's name on it. We had a sack race and a three legged race. At the end I served cupcakes and ice cream cups. The kids had a great time and I stayed reasonably sane.

A park? A Beach? A Bowling Alley? Hire a clown and have a party at your house? An Amusement Park? A swimming pool?

I don't know if they have one near you but there is this place called Libby Lu's it's a really great place for girls, they dress up and get a make over and make their own body spray or hair gel and they can get their hair done up! There are different themes like rock star and princess. Go to www.clublibbylu.com and see if there is one near you, I'm sure she will have the best birthday ever!

Chuck-E-Cheese
Roller Skating Rink
Bowling Alley
McDonald's Play Land
Gymboree

Or you can do it at home. Which would so much more comfortable, safer and budget savy.

You can have a theme party, with something your 5 year old will like, or have a party at a park.
