Around $200.00 or less with a good freq range and solid reception. I'd like to use it to listen to local and state police, conservation officers, maybe some military comms, etc. Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Lots of things are changing in the scanning world. In the next year or two, you will not be able to listen to a lot of your local public safety organizations unless you have an up to date scanner.

If you are serious about scanning, save your pennies and get a Radio Shack Pro-96 or a Uniden-396T

I listen to one all the time in Idaho. I got mine (I have 3) at either Wall mart (Uniden Bearcat) and Radio Shack. Look on EBay, they have everything!
