Less than 10 minutes ago my friend was mugged by three guys. One hit him over the head spilling all his groceries. One of them claimed to have a gun. He is shaken and up set, with scraped knees, elbows, dirt everywhere, and a throbbing head. And for what, a lousy 7 dollars. I'd hate to be these peoples karma.

What's shocking is I live in a relatively small city. This happened not but 5 minutes walk from my house. I find it a little unsettling.

Michael L, feeling judgmental lately? Actually he was taken by squad car to the scene of the crime. In the interm I posted this question as it was understandably on my mind at the time. When he returned I went with him to the station and sat in the lobby for about 45 minutes. Afterwards I bought him a meal on my dime. FinallyI drove him home and helped him cancel his credit card and to recall the police on my cell phone. Please get all the facts straight before jumping to conclusions.

maddie, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that but if you mean they deserve to burn in hell eternally I still say mercy triumps over judgment and that all souls will one day return in union with their maker.

Lucybelle, yes indeed, my friend noted it would be hard to go out and not feel afraid that something like this would happen again. We live in a relatively small city and it has changed our view of just how safe or not it is here. This is the greatest thing we both lost out of the incident.

Beautiful Di..., some how I just doubt they mugged my friend for a loaf a bread so to speak. In fact they did not even take his food as he was on the way back from the grocery store with 40 dollars worth of food. Instead they took a wallet with 7 dollars in it, his passport, and a credit card. Fortunately they were stupid enough to use it in four places including Walmart for an attempted 740 or so dollars. Well it looks like they are on candid camera now. Hopefully they'll be caught soon or else they will feel enabled to hurt others. I may not be hell fire and brimstone oriented in my theology but I also see this as more of a spiritual problem than a Marxist one.

Ray, actually my friend is very religious, going to church regularly, reading his bible, etc. Sometime people getted bowled over even if karmically they did not deserve so. Jesus is one such exampled claimed by Christians to exemplify this concept. As for being more aware, yes a higher awareness of his surrounding might have adverted the situation but this would mean he'd have to in the least mistrust more and be carefree less. There is a real loss for always being on high alert. In fact he heard a noise behind him but assumed it was a jogger and conscienciously moved let them pass. This is when he was elbowed in the back of the head as one of the men with a gun threatened him while the others took his wallet and ran. Real nice. It's too bad when we live in a place you have to have eyes in the back of your head. I've walked some of the roughest cities in the world and I naturally avoid getting to close to people when walking alone in semi-deserted places.

LeAnne, Thank you for your positive words of wisdom. Most people are indeed good hearted and when some are not their actions become all too prevalent in our minds. Thank you for reminding us of the good still out there lest we become cynical, which I have heard is the cheapest form of intelectualism.

Molly_Apple, yeah like Cain did to able. Whether or not you believe it literal or metaphorical we understand the point. I do however think some eras to be more spiritually deficient than others. I think we in America are in one of those eras. I do however also believe more people than every are reaching enlightenment. But compared to the population overall, it is hard to see this fact.

Melissa C, even after having explained it to you you accused me of not only changing my story but not caring. You need to seriously grow up as your post and reply was seriously rude not to mention lacking compassion, but that goes without saying. It's attitudes like yours that cause people not to "care" enough whether they hurt others in their quest to fulfill their desires, just like the muggers.

Melissa C, my correspondence with you has soured. Telling me to "suck it" is not the mature response I was looking for, nor did it show any creativity as far as insults go. Well the muggers got my friends 7 dollars that was their desire, and you got your desire which you expressed to me as your 2 points. I hope you are happy, but I kind of doubt it since you are in a hellish state of mind. Unfortunately I had to fight being dragged down to your level. Hopefully someday you can accept the loving hand that wants to help you out of it.

Melissa C, you seriously need a time line. My friend was mugged and came immediately home. I immediately called the police in which surprisingly they came prompt. So I assume from the time my friend was mugged to the time he got to my house was about 5 minutes. It took another 5 minutes for the police to come. They took some pictures before leaving which may have taken another 5 minutes. Ok sue me, I said 10 instead of 15. Don't be a Pharisee, we have enough of them running around as it is. They left approxiamately 15 minutes after the mugging to go back to the scene of the crime. I spend about 10 minutes or so trying to get a hold of mutal friends which were not available so I vented my feeling on the Internet as that is the medium I am used to. When they came back my friend did not stay long but went to the station with the police officier. In which I followed a few minutes later. I was not let in the police station for some reason so waited in the lobby for about 45 minutes or so.

Melissa C, After waiting in the lobby for 45 minutes or so my friend finally came out and I drove him to get something to eat at my expense. Finishing eating I drove him home and helped him to cancel his credit cards as well as to call the police on some leads. Finally the next morning wanting to be nice I drove him to work in which he usually walks. I hope this satisfies your curiousity so do not imply again that I am a liar by changing my story. You just weren't there so in your judgmental mindset you jumped to hard @$$ed conclusions that were hurtful and lack compassion. I hope your conscious is panging as it is a good sign that it is functioning.

Beautiful Di..., I made an honest mistake in interpretating your post. So that all may see, I sincerely apologize right now. I was not mindful in reading your posting leading me to make a wrongful interpretation. I'm truly sorry. Now that that is over it is now time to look at yourself. You also have morally fallen but with unnecessary insults along with the assumption that I am a woman hater. This is not true in the least. Though I hope you accept my apology, I also hope you will be big enough to offer one of your own. Go back and read your edited post again & see if it was written in God's Spirit.

Why aren't you with your friend instead of an here? What INDEED is this world coming too? Your friend gets mugged and less than 10 minutes later you are on the computer.
Isn't that nice that you post a response for everyone that answers. As you must feel the need to defend yourself against everything said. I don't feel judgmental lately, I feel it all of the time. If you can't handle the different answers posted online, why post?
I also stick by what I said in my response email to yours.....don't post that your friend got mugged 10 minutes ago and then change your story that you took him to eat, sat with him in the police station. Doesn't make sense unless you need to change your story to make you look better.
Muggings happen everyday, the world is a dog eat dog world, as much as that sucks, but worse things happen every minute of the day and unless you have tights and a cape, what are you going to do? That by the way, is a challenge, if you are disgusted by this mugging, do something about it.

This day in age, we are going to wake up and realize that the people we love and are really close to...are the ones we shouldn't trust either. This world is going to hell. Although there are several good ones left out there...they too have done some shady and out-of characteristic things in their lifetimes as well. So, what's this world coming to? A firey end. Cause unless we as humans figure out how to erase evil and work together to stop poverty...and help others who need it...we all are going to mugging each other just to buy a loaf of bread. Stupid government...

What's this world coming to? Muggings aren't new. But you're right about the Karma. If your friend can muster-up he might want to forgive his aggressors and also himself for not keeping up a high enough consicousness in alignment with the Source of his Creation. That's the best thing he can do for his Karma. If he's not abiding by the "Laws of Nature's God" he can expect to encounter suffering. It's not new, it's as old as humankind.

Horrible. Some people are just evil with no human decency. The hardest part will be for your friend not to let this change how he lives. Changing your life after violence just means they win.
