i have been in depression for quite a while also, and with anxiety also. it took many kinds of antidepressants to find the right one for me. i once asked my psychiatrist what would happen to some one that isn't depressed, and took anti-depressants. i was told they wouldn't notice any difference. so i tried it. went off all of my mood stabilizer meds for about a week to ten days. i began to feel the depression symptons returning. i immediately went back on my meds, and with a week was back to normal. remember in people with major depression problems theres a lack of a certain chemical missing from the body, that the brain usually produces. look on it as a long term treatment plan, just as some one with diabetes needing insulin, hypertensive people needing meds to control their high blood pressure and people with thyriod problems having to take meds for this, depending on whether they have hyperthroidism or hypothyroidism or alhiemer victims needing certain meds to keep them as functional as long as possible. as for you feeling depressed now, it could be because you and your doctor may have to experiment with different meds to find the one for you or it may be because you don't like being a depressive person. depression is a disease just as the ones i mentioned aboved. it is not something you can snap out of. you must change your way of thinking, i know that depression was once taboo, imagine how many people must have suffered and committed suicide because what they were feeling and felt they had no one to confide in or any meds as we have today to help control their moods except alcohol, which is a depressant itself, which only increased the depressed mood they were in. so stop feeling so depressed. you may need a change of medication or just an attitude adjustment about depression. make sure you talk to your doctor, preferably a psychiatrist, they have more experience in treating depression and they will work with you if you need a change of meds. also tell them how you feel and ask them for recommendations to see a therapist.let them know if you prefer a female or male. i still see my therapist about once a month or sooner if something comes up and i need to confide in someone, who's not going to judge, but help you come to an understanding with what's going on in your life. or to just vent.

Switch medicines. Obviously yours isn't working for you so you need to try something new. Sometimes medicines wear out because you've been taking it so long.
Another thing you can do is excersize regularly. Join a gym. Excersize is proven to be almost as effective, if not more, than anti-depressants. Trust me I am in the same place as you except not as depressed!

I HAVE RE-OCCURRING MAJOR DEPRESSION, HOWEVER I HAVE BEEN STABLE NOW SINCE 1997. SO HANG IN THERE AND DON'T GIVE UP.
THERE ARE NO MAGIC PILLS THAT WILL MAKE YOU BETTER, IT TAKES A LOT OF WORK, YOU NEED TO FIND A GOOD THERAPIST (COUNSELOR) AND START INTENCE ONE ON ONE THERAPY. YOU MIGHT ALSO WANT TO LOOK INTO SUPPORT GROUPS IN YOUR AREA. MEDICATION IS ALSO TRICKY, IT CAN TAKE YEARS TO FIND THE ONE OR COMBINATION OF.. THAT WILL WORK BEST FOR YOU. YOU NEED TO START SPEAKING UP AND ACTIVELY PARTICAPATE IN TO YOUR TREATMENT. IF YOUR MEDS DO NOT SEEM TO WORKING TELL YOUR DOCTOR !!AND GET INTO THERAPY TOMORROW 1 GOOD LUCK,
