He pays what is owed or he goes to jail! Oh yes, they are arrested!
Under federal law:
18 U.S.C. § 228 reads as follows:
Failure to pay child support obligations
Offense. Whoever willfully fails to pay a past due support obligation with respect to a child who resides in another State shall be punished as provided in subsection (b).
Punishment. The punishment for an offense under this section is:
in the case of a first offense under this section, a find under this title, imprisonment for not more than 6 months, or both; and
in any other case, a fine under this title, imprisonment for not more than 2 years, or both.
Restitution. Upon a conviction under this section, the court shall order restitution under section 3663 in an amount equal to the past due support obligation as it exists at the time of sentencing.
Definitions. As used in this section:
the term "past due obligation" means any amount
determined under a court order or an order of an administrative process pursuant to the law of a State to be due from a person for the support and maintenance of a child or of a child and the parent with whom the child is living; and
that has remained unpaid for a period longer than one year, or is greater than $5,000.00; and
the term "State" includes the District of Columbia, and any other possession or territory of the United States.
It is ironic that a guy wants you to get off of welfare, which no longer exists, but doesn't want you to go after the dad!
I am sure most can find a job that will pay you enough money to live, provide medical benefits, as kids are often at doctors and pay daycare!!
What about it anti abortionists, what is your view on supporting a mother who DID have the child????

A mother being on welfare doesn't make the father a dead-beat. The father not paying child support makes him a dead-beat. Tons of fathers pay child support and the mothers are on welfare regardless.
A father who doesn't pay his court ordered child support can be arrested, tried, jailed and fined in addition to what he owes in back child support. His wages (present and future) will be garnished until all of his obligations are fulfilled. His tax returns can also be garnished.
In California, people can lose their driver's license for failure to provide for their children.
The father cannot be forced to work, however.

Probably depends on what state you live in. Years ago my ex-husband got put in jail for something. While he was there, the Attorney General checked their list and found out he was in jail and would not release him until he paid the back child support he owed. Don't know how they work it now, but check your local State Attorney Generals Office website, they should be able to tell you everything you need to know.

The father is made to pay child support, pending a paternity test. You can't be arrested for being a deadbeat dad.

A lot more happens to him than a "dead beat MOM". In Pennsylvania, they are hunted until they are found, arrested, spend time in jail, then their pay is garnished. But a DEAD BEET MOM, she receives friendly reminder letters. Why can it not be " DEAD BEET PARENT". and equal treatment!!!!!!!
