I got this camera as a gift. I'm mainly using it to take pix of my kids. Many of the pictures are muddy or are slightly blurry. How can I get good, sharp shots with vivid colors? My 5-year-old camera takes better pictures than my Kodak! Thanks!

Sounds like either incorrect camera setup, or defective camera.

These cameras have a full Automatic mode and a Program mode.

Make sure flash is set to go off as required. (It might be turned off.)

Check Automatic first. Go through the Setup portion of the Menu. Make sure Focus is not set to Continuous. Monitor is usually best. All other settings in Automatic should be Automatic or Center. Try some pics.

Check Program next. Go through the Setup menu again. To start with, settings should all be automatic, center, or neutral (1/2 way between + and -) or zero, depending on the parameter. Try some more pics.

Make sure that you are not using any Scene modes.

If you cannot find any incorrect settings and are still getting bad pics, take the camera back to store or call for warranty service.

Let me know of questions.

Good luck
