I have always wondered that myself. There are many places in the bible that a 'loving' God shows he is not a very loving deity.

And another thing that gets me...is the reference to a God fearing people...why must they fear their God? I would not want to follow a God that I must fear. How can that be a loving deity...if you must fear him?

Adam and Eve was warned and they took it upon themselves to indulge in what was forbidden therefore punishing themselves. Adam and Eve introduced evil to mankind not God because when he created everything on Earth, God made sure it was good. We have the power of will and if a father is a convict and the son choose another lifestyle, God gave him free will to make a different decision than his father therefore living a better life than his father. How merciful.

By one man, Adam, sin entered into the world. God hates the SIN, but He still LOVES the sinner. God is not some "big bully" up in the sky, waitng for people to mess up. It actually hurts Him when they do. Be sure, God is too wise to make a mistake, and too merciful to be unkind. He created us, and He knows our frailities and our weaknesses. He knows that we have the sin nature because of Adam and Eve sinnining by being disobedient to Him. Even then, God is a "JUST" God, and NO sin can be unpunished or overlooked. He killed an innocent animal to cover their nakedness, and I'm sure He took no pleasure in doing so. But, He also still loved them, even though they had to face punishment. When you as a parent, have children, you must teach them right from wrong. If you DON'T punish them when they do wrong, you are doing them a great injustice. They will never learn that there are consequences to sin. The same with God. He is our Heavenly Father that loves and cares for us. He wants us to do right. As a matter of fact, because the wages of sin is death, God made a way for us to go to Heaven by the blood of Christ. All we have to do is accept this gift of God's grace by His only begotten Son, Jesus. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. For whosoever calleth upon the name of the Lord SHALL be saved. That is a very loving trait of a very loving God. But, because we are Adam's decendants, we have inherited the sin nature {flesh} that once you are saved, is always warring with your spirit. It will be that way until we, as Christians get home! Be sure, God loves you. He loves everyone. But He also hates sin.

Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they knew fully of the consequences! They were perfect physically and mentally and they still went against his command. God is love but he is also just. Adam and Eve thought they would be better of independent from God. So God punished them for breaking his command and that meant sin and death. Since they would have children after their sinful state this sin and death would pass on to their children. But God Lovingly Provided away out for their righteous and obedient offspring. After seeing their rebellion God set up an arrangement for rescuing the future generations. Perfect Jesus (God's son) would have to buy back what perfect Adam had lost. And Jesus paid that Ransom with his death thousands of years after the rebellion. God and his son Jesus will soon take over and restore the earth to perfect peaceful conditions.

Read Ezekiel 18 --According to this chapter, God does not punish future generation--it is stated quite clearly that the punishment goes to the person who sins and not the children.

There are some verses that are used to suggest that God will punish future generations. One of these places is Exodus 20:5. This is one place where the KJV and ASB have better translations--they read I God will "visit iniquity" on the third and fourth generations. What that means is that God will be observing the effects of some of our sins in later generations--we won't be around to see the effects of our alcoholism, abuse, greed, excessive consumption of resources, etc. but God will be around to visit or "see" how we have caused others to suffer.

Dear Searcher,

He IS a loving God, but He is also a Holy God, and He gave them a choice, and they knew the punishmnent. While Satan deceived Eve, Adam willingly ate of the apple.

HOWEVER!, God also had the plan of Salvation in place, "...before the foundation of the world", just in case they would fall.

He made a Way for us to choose to come back to Him, the Work is already finished, now EACH of us gets to choose....

So, Our Loving God has placed the gift at your feet, now the question is......what are YOU going to do with it? Accept it or walk away?

Because when Adam and eve sinned, they caused sin in the world. They are the reason for all the sin. God isn't punishing us, we do a pretty good job of that on our own. God delivers us from sin.

No, but the sins of the father are visited upon the sons even to the 7th generation (uh, maybe that was the 4th, I forget lol)

If you don't think that's true, just ask the son of an alcoholic. He'll tell you that not only is he pre-disposed to alcoholism, he gets all the mental crud that comes just from being the man's son.

God didn't punish us, Adam and Eve did by abusing their free will before having children. God had no desire for them to fall, and he gets no joy out of it either.

We don't FEAR him in the sense we'll upset or make him po'd. That's silly. As long as you live a humble live and try to live that way daily, he's always there for you. What you should fear in your God is a number of things, first off is that he's wonderfully made, so far out of our concept that we can't conceive, its frightening to consider the infinite possiblites of God. Also, we should fear our disappoint him even tho we try to live righteous lives, we all sin and still fall short of the Glory of God. We should Fear that we lose our HUMILITY towards him and start treating him more like a friend than a God. There's so many reasons.

God loves us so much that He created us with a free choice so that we do not become robots.

When Eve and then Adam made a free choice to eat from the fruit that will give them knowledge of good and evil, they made a choice. They did it even though GOD told them not to do so, and by doing it they will experience spiritual death. They will begin to know the difference between good and evil and sin has entered into mankind.

Mankind is cut-off from the holy presence of God because of sin. We read from the bible that the offsprings of Adam, Cain and Abel are filled with sin. Cain's heart was filled with such hatred and jealousy of Abel that even killed his brother because of jealousy!

By eating the fruit that GOD forbidded, men has chosen to be separated from GOD. Sin has entered into his heart. And sin has also entered into the hearts of his offspring.

But you need not feel that you are wrongly convicted. Our loving GOD has a salvation plan for you! He has sent his only begotten Son to die for all of us so that we can be forgiven of our sins and be able to enjoy fellowship with the GOD of love again!

God is loving.
He gave us free will.
Many of our problems are the result of misusing the free will.
Sometimes we suffer because our own sins, but sometimes we suffer because of other people's sins.
If father is the convict, the son did not have to go to jail for father's crime...but he can visit the father.
God uses people, events to bring us closer to Him. We have a free will, we should use it wisely.
