Because if they embrace evolution then they would have to admit that perhaps their God did not create the world and all on it. Not something they are willing to do as it would negate their most sacred religious belief.

It is not true that christians toss evolution out the window. Many, many believers of god work with and accept evolution. it is only the most fervent fundamentalist who do. It is they who need you to believe that there is something evil or atheistic about it. It is only they who tell you that you can’t be christian and accept evolution.
There is no empirical evidence whatsoever to support creationism. There is only criticism of evolution. creationism never stands on it’s own. It is simply held by people who so firmly believe that the bible must hold absolutely accurate scientific data or their faith is in jeopardy.
Galileo’s claim the earth revolved around the sun was debated for years during his lifetime. But it was also becoming more and more accepted by the people, that’s what ultimately got him into trouble. The religious fanatics claimed his instruments were inaccurate, or his observations were mistaken, or his measurements or calculations were incorrect or his conclusions were invalid or that he was a godless infidel.
And here they are today doing the same thing with science that their fanatical forefathers did.
Science is always self correcting. Fundamentalist faith has a conflict of interest, because every fact must conform to some predefined conclusion, and any fact that does not, must be immediately and forcefully rejected for one of the above reasons.
It is a dishonesty so obvious that you must actually pretend not to see it.
Religion often(not always) breeds a blind conformity. Followers are told what to believe and so they are susceptible to simply following everything they’re told… even if it’s to drink the Kool-Aid
REMEMBER:
There are many, many believers in god who support evolution, Christians and others. They have no conflict between their faith and science. But, there are no non-believers who accept creationism.
Only the most fervent fundamentalists believe in creationism, the same ones who once demanded that the sun orbits the earth.

Well for a few reasons.
One, it does not say that it took billions of years in Genesis.
Two, it does not say that it took place in the order required for evolution.
Three, it would require death before Adam and Eve. This is contrary to what God designed and stated in Genesis. How could something that was "very good" have death as a part of it. Also, God did the first killing to clothe Adam and Eve.

Lets face it both theories are wild and complex and both are impossible to completely prove or disprove. I do believe gods design is as complex as you suggest and that life is a component of the two theories combined. Hell we may have even been visited by an alien race as L Ron Hubbard suggests. Want proof, you should see the guy who works at the local supermarket where I live. He cant be from this planet.

You know Hitler embraced Evolution theories too. That should make you think more seriously about Evolution. Yeah the world is complex because it's Gods creation. Now go out and discover it. Why get caught up in why why why. Go out and enjoy this Earth and know you are a caretaker of it. You are a soul, created by the hands of God.

Because the book of Genesis IS meant to be taken literally, that's why. In the new testament the writers take it literally, so the stories in the book of Genesis are not figurative accounts although the Old Testament is full of stories that have a greater spiritual meaning that can apply to our lives today.
Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. 4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh. 5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Because Evolution is a religion which denies the existence of God.
Although Evolutionists do not like to be reminded of this Evolution is just a theory and because it cannot be proven using the Scientific Method, it will always remain ONLY a theory. Therefore, evolutionary thinking is a belief system just like any other religion.
Evolution is part of Origins Science, just like Intelligent Design and Creationism. Origins Science is limited by the very nature of what it attempts to understand. You see, the Scientific Method is a process with specific steps which is used to logically answer questions or solve problems. The Scientific Method requires the scientist(s) to:
1. directly observe an event or process
2. develop questions which will help him/her focus his/her further observations
3. arrive at a hypothesis or theory based on these observations
4. conduct verifyable, independently (that is by others on their own) repeatable experiments
5. evaluate the results of the experiments
6. determine whether the results of the experiments prove or disprove the theory.
Since the events which led to the creation of the universe and life happened in the distant past (whether one believes it was billions of years ago or thousands of years ago), and we have no way of traveling to the past, there is no way for scientists to conduct direct observations. Additionally, there have been no independently repeatable experiments which have led to the creation of life.
So, where Origins are concerned, scientists can only have theories. They can then search for evidence which supports their theory. But the theory can NEVER be proven, so it can only be a theory.
Yes, by those same standards, Creationism is also only a theory. It takes as much faith for me to believe in Creation as it takes an evolutionist to believe in Evolution.
Why do I say evolution requires as much faith as Christianity? Because, evolution is based on the idea that organisms improve through chance mutations and the accumulation of favorable traits that improve the organism's chances of survival. However, before you can even have an organism, which is defined as "a living complex adaptive system of organs that influence each other in such a way that they function as a more or less stable whole," you must have organs, which are "An organ is a structure that contains at least two different types of tissue functioning together for a common purpose", before you have organs you have to have tissues which are "a collection of similar cells that group together to perform a specialized function," cells are "The cell is the smallest unit in the living organism that is capable of integrating the essential life processes". "All cells share a number of common properties; they store information in genes made of DNA (see nucleic acid); they use proteins as their main structural material; they synthesize proteins in the cell's ribosomes using the information encoded in the DNA and mobilized by means of RNA; they use adenosine triphosphate as the means of transferring energy for the cell's internal processes; and they are enclosed by a cell membrane, composed of proteins and a double layer of lipid molecules, that controls the flow of materials into and out of the cell." So a cell is the smallest structure which can b considered to be alive. But in order to have cells you need proteins. But proteins are made by organisms. So, you come to a "Which came first, the chicken or the egg" situation. And since proteins are not living they would not have a reason to accumulate favorable traits, or mutate, therefore, no evolution to cells.
True, I also cannot prove the theory of Creationism and I cannot scientifically prove the existence of God.
However, if in the end it turns out I was wrong and the evolutionists were right. then I will simply cease to exist happily expecting to wake up in Heaven eternally worshipping and fellowshipping with God and will never know I was wrong. While if the evolutionist turns out to be wrong he will die happily expecting to simply cease to be, only to find himself facing a Creator he has denied for all of his brief life and will then be denied by the Creator for eternity. All in all, I think my options are better whether I am living a deluded life or not.

While I don't hold to the theory that we evolved from some ooze, your words, I do believe we, as humans, have evolved.
I believe firmly in the creation story in the BIBLE and have no problem reconciling that belief with evolution.
Man adapts to the environment in which he finds himself, that's evolution.
Man has begun to use more and more of the potential he holds as far as reason and common sense, that to is evolution.
And just for the record, I am a Born Again, Bible believing, Evangelical, Preacher, Evangelist and Author.

Theistic evolution is the worst of the three possibilities : macroevolution, theistic evolution, and creationism. Furthermore, theistic evolution is an oxymoron, a contradiction in terms. By definition, evolution COMPLETELY excludes any guidance from an outside source. Additionally, theistic evolution straddles the fence: it's a bad compromise for theists to attempt accommodation of evolution in a god-directed evolutionary sequence.

Because... it is a mistake to think that Darwinism (in its various forms) thinks that God is involved. Darwinism is foundationally atheistic in nature.
--
Having said that...
There is no evidence that proves Atheistic MacroEvolution (without Intelligent Design)...
I used to believe in Evolution. However, over a period of time I have grown skeptical of the claims of Macro*Evolution... this is largely due to the weakness of the evidence for Macro*Evolution, and the fact that the evidence, rationally interpreted does not support the overarching claims made by Macro*Evolutionists...
For scientific and intellectual critiques of evolution, see http://www.godsci.org/gsi/apol/evo/00.html .
