Well Chris...Even a R22 will cost around 250-300hr plus possible instructor fees.
Your best to do a fixed wing license first..and then convert to helos.
Also there are very few privately owned helicopters out there. Most are involved in commercial activity. Those that are privately owned are usually owned by folks without an instructor's permit.
One alternate way to consider is to purchase an R22 with mid-life components and finance it for 6 months. Hire yourself an instructor...buckle down and get your comm test done within the six month period and then sell the machine.
If you shop around a bit..find a good price and then keep it in good nik......you'll recoup 90% or more of your purchase price.
Or...better yet...let the government pay YOU to learn to fly...Be all that you can be..and all that stuff!

You can find someone to teach you how to fly. The real trick is finding an instructor who can actually sign you off and make you a legal pilot. Depending on where you live, there are quite a few helo schools.
