For me this means that if I am all full of myself (the great I am) then usually something comes along to knock me off my high horse. I feel it also means that you are taking credit for God's work. When you are humble you are on solid ground, No one can knock you off solid ground. You are also giving God the glory for everything concerning yourself. Thanks, good question. God Bless.

He was talking about people who fall into the sin of Satan where they want to rob God of his glory and glorify themselves in the eyes of men.
For a time it may appear that they have been exalted when people give them praise but in the end it will be the people who humbly serve the Lord that will be truly exalted when they are ushered into the Kingdom of Heaven while the proud are cast into the Lake of Fire!

He meant that people who do things in order to make themselves look good are just out for themselves and people will see through them and someday they'll find out they're not so great. But people who do the right thing, even though it may be hard and no one finds out about it, will receive an eternal reward from God.

Exactly what he said( If you believe that He did) Walk around and tell everyone how wonderful you are, so full of righteous devotion to God, condemning all who aren't. Only Born Again will go to heaven etc--- Those who are quiet about themselves and their beliefs. Who live their faith and don't have to tell you they do. they are the humble kind of like Mother Theresa and they shall be with God.

If you exalt yourself, He will humble you (and it's usually in a very dramatic way.) If you humble yourself before Him, He will exalt you.

Christ is our example in all things. Just as he humbled himself below all things to allow himself to take on the sins and suffering of the world and to to be mocked and hung on a cross to save all mankind, then to rise above all things to set at the right hand of God, So can we rise above all things if we will but be humble enough to be below all things. Those who won't do this are prideful and will be brought down below all things in the end.

It's an issue of pride and humility. This verse - as well as the verses about the people standing on the street corner praying as opposed to praying in a closet - are talking about what is in your heart hon. If you put yourself first, you are selfish, and that is the wrong attitude for your heart. It leads you down a road you don't want to go.

If we as christians get our eyes off of God and His power working in us and say "look what I HAVE DONE!" instead of what "God has done!" then we are headed for a fall.
When we give God all the Glory and Praise for his purpose only then He will in his time exalt us!

I can't. He can. I'll let Him. I think it means that if we go through life thinking we're in control, sooner or later we're gonna find out, and it's gonna shock us, that we aren't. If we are humble, and do the next right thing, good/God things happen.

Those who have been successful and let everyone know about it, will find that all that success, money, and fame will be of no use to them. "The meek shall inherit the earth." The little guy will be the one with all the riches of heaven.
