Side Effects: Your cat will most likely stop spraying, or never develop the tendency to do so. If they are let outside, they will roam less and get in less fights. They will be happier, healthier answers. It will eliminate the risk of cancer specific to that region. You cat will live longer, healthier, and not contribute to the over population crisis.
But on the serious note, a neuter is a very easier, superficial surgery. There will probably be no suture. Just watch your cat for infection-this is rare, but is there is any draining after the neuter, bring your cat back to the vet to have it checked.
After anesthesia, your cat will have reduced energy and appetite (possibly) for 24-48 hours. Anything longer, and you need to bring your cat back to the vet.
As for anesthesia in general, ir carries a small risk. Cats with kidney fundtion problems are more at risk. However, there is no way to know this, and complications during anesthesia are less than 1 percent.
Neuters are 99.9 percent of the time in and out surgeries with nearly no recovery time that leave you with a happy, healthier cat.

Some cats get a little lazier and gain weight, or so I'm told, because they are less likely to wander and compete with other cats for dominance, mates, hunting grounds, whatever. I have personally never known a cat who experienced this side effect and we have always neutered our cats. They all still snuck out, fought with neighbor cats and brought home dead things and didn't get fat and lazy till they hit their teens.
Male cats who are not neutered develop a thick jowl around their chin/cheek area as a secondary sex characteristic, this does not usually develop in cats who are neutered, assuming this is done before they develop.

None. It will make them more loving taking away aggression and the need to spray. It will prevent pregnancies as well. However they still have a need for fun if you know what I mean so If you get it fixed and then catch it with another cat dont worry. Its safe.

If it has been more than a few days and kitty is feeling lethargic, has little interest in his surroundings, and so on, then you need to call the vet, he may have an infection

Your cat will be subdued and sleepy. It may last, but it might not depending on the personality.
