I was pregnant with my first son in May of 99 and I did not have a baby shower until after he was born. The reason that I and my family believe in waiting till after the baby is born is because you never know what might happen during the delivery of the child (especially the first). You may have problems during delivery and you may not. I am not trying to put fear into your head. That is just my way of thinking.
Also a good reason to wait is so that everyone has a chance to see the baby and you all at the same time and you also get a break time. I would wait till the baby was about 1 month old if you choose to do it this way.

I think it's a personal preferance.

If you know what you are having, it changes things a little. I threw my sister-in-law's shower when she was about 8 months pregnant. Then she could enjoy it a little more - when you are ready to deliver, it's miserable to have to entertain people.

I didn't know what I was having, so I chose to wait until after the baby came to have the shower.

I had a baby shower given for me on my husband's side of the family when I was about 8 months along. then, because I have at least one great aunt who is superstitious about these things, my mom gave one for me after my daughter was born. both were nice, the one given while I was still pregnant let me spread my excitement, at the one after everyone got to spend time holding the baby and play dress-up. XD

I had mine was I was about 7 and a half months along...I believe women usually don't have them till they are at least 7 to 8 months along. That way you might know what the baby's sex is and the chances of miscarriage or slim to none.

Anywhere after 8 months is fine. These days, people are having them after the baby is born that way they can get girl or boy stuff.

i would say you should have it after 20 weeks which is when you find out the sex of the baby. that way you can tell people the sex and they can buy accordingly. even if you arent going to find out the sex, you should have it after you are at least 20 weeks, its more fun when the mommy to be has a big belly. you can make a game out of guessing how big her belly is.

I'd say at least a few weeks before your due date in case you go into premature labor, 7-8 months is probably best.
