First, check in your pocket if you even have enough money for a down payment. Once you have done that, then ask yourself what can your parents or yourself afford in this situation. Look for something that you might like, afford, and will be able to last for a long time. Everybody starts from the bottom so don't get a 40,000 dollar car, then you can't pay for it (you get the idea). Ask your uncles and aunts for advice and if you can, ask for money too. Of course you have to give a down payment first, then you will have to pay on the monthly basis.

Go to an auction with an adult, first preview the cars with someone that's experienced with cars, check the oil if it has water the block is cracked and not worth buying, ask for the keys to start it up.
At your young age most likely you don't want a brand new car even if you can afford it as you will get practice, as you will hit curbs...
Most of the dealers go to auctions to buy there cars and you would think it is a good idea as they may have inspected the car before hand, but that is not always the case, unless you get it in writing!
As with anything that is resold you will pay at least double the price as far as 10x as much at a dealer.
But save the classics for people that are restoring them. Thanks!!!

It depends on whether you have any credit or not. Have you ever had a credit card or anything? If not, you will need a cosigner. You may be able to get one without a down payment, just make sure you get a good interest rate, or you'll get screwed in the long run. Do some research online into what you want. Do you want to buy or lease? New or used? Know what you want before you go to a dealership.

You need credit to buy a car without a down payment unless you go to those rip off places, then your interest is like 25%. Can your parents help you and co-sign for one? It will help you to build your credit. Usually you put down money and then make monthly payments. Don't buy something that you will not be able to pay for.

I would get a used car as my first car. You really don't want to be tied down to a loan when you are so young. Seriously.

But, if you do decide to get a new car (very expensive), depending on what types of promotions they have going on, you have to make a down payment (usually thousands) and then make monthly payments (usually hundreds). Sometimes, they won't have you make a down payment and then your monthly payments will go up.

But, seriously, go to craigslist and look for a car there. New cars are not worth it.

Because of your age you might need a co signer, even at 18 if you don't have credit established

you have to have a downpayment. they usually expect about five hundred at least. then you have monthly payments or bi weekly payments depending on how they set it up. no matter what you do avoid j.d. byrider. they cater to people who can't afford much but they will majorly rip you off. trust me.
