Doesn't to me.

In my opinion it only matters if he uses his religion as a basis for decisions. But, anyone of any religion will at least use that religion as part of the decision making process. So, that's why people consider the religion of a person when voting. I'd rather have someone with no religious belief in office...like a deist or agnostic (just how a lot of the founding fathers were). It would help maintain a stronger distance between church and state.

I believe it only matters when he is intolerant of belief systems different than his own and lets it show. America is made up of a very diverse pool of beliefs and the President has to represent all the people.. not just the ones whom agree with his beliefs.

It doesn't really. Some people care to know. Its good for campaigning because it brings familiarity to the candidate, especially for others who belong to the same church.
