The standard issue is black, 50/50 wool/cotton padded sole, calf length. Although you can buy OD green socks at clothing and sales.

I'm in the Air Force, and I do not wear olive green, mid-calf socks! I wear either black or white mid-calf socks (except during PT, then I wear white ankle socks). Olive green is just not a color I want to wear if I can help it, and there's no sense in wearing them for me since AF is mainly blue and white. My sister was in the Army, though, and she never wore olive green socks, either, so I don't think it really matters what branch you're in.

Never in my career. I was always worried about surprise inspections (I was a MP), needless to say, we were inspected a lot. I was Navy, which follows Marine Corps Cami standards and black was the only acceptable color under boots and Cami's.
