This may seem strange, but I have heard it works. Playing Barry Manilow songs will scare the teenagers away since it will no longer be "cool" place to hang out.

after reading answers i notice that no one has mentioned the obvious :a neighborhood grocery serves a small community, punks are only punks when they are anonymous, as store owner you should be able to recognize who these brats belong to and tell these parents that their patronage is no longer allowed and play a looping VCR tape of the said brats in action [sound turned down, because every one can lip read those words] if embarrassed parents don't stop them the tape of them acting like jerks certainly will.

i think the Barry manalow threat is scary enough to work and not a bad idea. as for calling the cops on the brats will they show up in time or at all?mabey if the punks show up at a regular time you can have a plainclothed or off duty policeman in the store waiting for them.

People of all ages act in an anti-social manner to elicit a response. Solutions are to either ignore them or respond in a non-chalant manner. They will soon become bored at the lack of response and move on. This same tactic also works in online chat rooms. Do not feed their ego by responding in a hostile manner because you will only justify their behavior.

Get this device called the "mosquito" it sends out a high pitched squeal that only teenagers and younger people can hear.

I'm not making this up. See the link below for one of many articles on this.

It's your store. Tell them to get out! In my neighborhood, during the school year, the corner market closes down during the local high school's lunch hour so the friggin' brats can't rob, harass, or threaten anyone.

gather up some of your friends and make a clever story. go and spray them punks with mace. when the cops come tell them your actions were in self defense. punks will/should not return for long time after that.

If they are employees, fire them. If they aren't, then you'll have to remind them. After you establish that your place isn't for such behavior, if they persist, you can have police intervention take care of the rest. If a burglar can sue for a broken arm in a theft attempt, swearing can be used too.

Tell the police they are disturbing the peace. Explain to the police that increased police presence around your store would be appreciated about the time they show up. Simply shake them up, get the police on them about something every single day.

They will snap and attack the police, in which case you won't need to worry about them again. Or they will wise up and leave.

Good luck,
Silence

If they are just standing around, ask the police to enforce the loitering laws. You can also threaten criminal action because they are harassing customers.

The music idea worked at the mini-mart in my town. They played classical music so young people wouldn't loiter.
