I’m the baby in my family. I have 2 older sisters and one brother. Why is my older sister and not my eldest one always mean to me? I mean, she’s only 1 year older! She acts like she’s mom half the time. Ordering me around, and telling me off. GRRRR! I just can’t stand it! Why is she like that? My brother I get, he’s a raciest pig and I converted to the Jewish religion a few years ago. That and he never accepted my being adopted. By my older sister? She never said that I’m not her real sister, just that I’m stupid, or an idiot of wrong!! Why, people please, why? Tell me, why does she do this to me?

Yes, we have been given the stuff to cause little sisters pain and anguish.

A large majority of her power comes straight from you. Eleanor Roosevelt once said, " Only you can allow someone to make you feel inferior " ... well, step one, since she is older, I suspect that you may slightly look up to her for guidance (consciously, or subconsciously). Ask yourself, would it hurt if she were not your older sister? Probably not, you'd probably just write off the words as "stupid" yourself.

What can you do? Well with 99% of the stuff in your life, you can only control u. Yes, that means that you need to take away the power you've given to your older sister. You need to learn to communicate, and be more adult than she. If she irks you, well you've got to find a way to determine if what she says is real or just a way to get more power over you. If she hits that emotion in you, you need to find a way to make peace with that emotion. It's not for her to fix but for you to fix.

I hope not all older sisters are. I'm an older sister. ;)

It's because human beings have a mean streak. You can talk to her about it, but I don't know how much good it will do. Has she ever been given the responsibility of babysitting you? That can cause the bossiness, because as an older sister I can tell you that I felt a responsibility to make my sister obey the rules when our parents weren't home.

It may take awhile, but you can develop a very good relationship when you are older than you are now. My sister and I are very close. I have often offered her advice, but she knows she is free to ignore it. But until then, you still have to live in the same house. So try to have a talk with her, or with your parents about it, or find someone you can trust who is very wise and ask for advice. Be careful who you choose! A lot of people who SEEM wise aren't.

By the way, we have seven children, and two of them were adopted, so I can tell you that a lot depends on how your parents handle the situation involving adoption. In our case, it worked out quite well, because we were very careful to do what we thought would help it work well. All our children are grown, and they're all very close. They will even live together to share expenses when needed, and that includes the married ones.

Treat your sister with kindness. Pray for her. Learn to forgive her. Try to find some things you both like to do and invite her to do them together sometimes (but don't be a tagalong).

Good luck with this!

No, not evil. I am an oldest sister, and I always got a big kick out of picking on the younger ones because I could. She's not evil, she just has no real power in the world, except over you. Really, it's kind of pathetic.

Wow, your sister is poor at this. in simple terms save in concepts, no "your mom" jokes. Sister: because you're so sluggish! You: or perchance i'm in simple terms so quickly that sluggish people have complication preserving. Yeah i'm not that tremendous both. =/ @bex_20: that doesn't truly artwork, on account that she's the older sibling...

Yep, pretty much. We dont mean to be evil, we just can be. Kind of like the freshmen in high school. Except the upper classmen mean to be evil. Its just the circle of evil-ness.

re:"Why, people please, why? Tell me, why does she do this to me?"

why do your parents either permit this or encourage it? why are you kids being raised like this? what's with your parents and their responsibility to raise their kids as friends - not ENEMIES? the 'why' of most family behavior is in the hands of those with the power - MOM & DAD. if you kids are acting rotten, mom and dad are responsible and have the power to train you differently (better). it's all about parenting, that's WHY. your parents could be raising all of you to be loving, friendly syblings instead of combatants and enemies! WHY AREN'T YOUR PARENTS DOING THIS????????
