Probably your best bet is to have a talk with him. Tell him, that you heard a rumor that he likes you more than just as a friend, but you're not ready to date. You have the right to decide that, and nobody should hold it against you. I don't understand these people who tell you to give it a chance. That's up to YOU. There can be a lot of reasons to wait to date him or anyone else, not the least of which is that on average, a girl/woman ends up married or pregnant, on average, within two years of starting to date. You are the only one who can make that decision for your life, and if you feel hesitant, then wait! It won't hurt. If you are kind when you talk to him, and just tell him you aren't ready, and that if he still likes you in the future, you will see if you are ready, then perhaps that's best. But clear communication is so important! Good luck!

Why are some of you people so cruel... ugh... thats whats wrong with this world already too many girls just dropping guys like their nothing. Anyway, To your question.... If you don't really like him kindly tell him you don't but don't rush through it, Be concerned because he is your best guy friend and you don't want to loose that. But here is another question... Why not date him? Everyone at least deserves a chance, I mean too many girls today are looking at dating as in getting married and it's not. It's just seeing how you two act as a couple. Who knows you might like him more than you think. But if not then be nice about it because it is his feelings.

He is your friend so there is trust involved. The best thing is to be honest about your feelings and that you care about him only as a friend. It will be a little hard for him but it's the best you can do for both of you and your friendship.

I have no clue, but all I know is that if he likes you, give him a chance (don't take my word for it, I'm ten). Everytime I find out that someone likes me, I'll surely talk to them, but I think a best dude friend is enough. I like (no, love) Tarik, and he's not even my friend. So he's lucky if you're even his friend. Good luck ;).

just tell him the truth -- don't let him dwell on it, even if it hurts him.
it will hurt him MORE if you don't say anything, and he eventually finds out the hard way.
but I am curious -- if you and he are both single, why not?
there are many things you can like about a person, why not give him a chance?
