My cat/kitten (he's not yet a year old) likes to bite everything, especially me and it hurts!!! He's really playful but sometimes he gets mean and I don't know how to keep him from doing this. I bought him a dog bone to chew on but he was only interested for a couple minutes and he moved on to knawing on electrical plugs and me. Any suggestions?

I've tried the water bottle and the whole "no" thing but he doesn't seem to listen or care.

give him an assertive tap on the nose and say "no". cats can actually learn word commands but most people don't bother.

Obviously, chewing on things electrical is dangerous. So you do want to put a stop to it. Unfortunately, you can't watch him 24/7. He may grow out of some of that, but I wouldn't count on it. I give my cat a thump on the nose and say "no" sharply when he does something like that in my presence. If you are scuffling with the cat or engaging in any kind of rough play, this teaches the cat to bite. Don't tease him, either. It sounds like you may have been scuffling with him. Unfortunately, you may have taught him a bad habit. If people would only think about whether the behavior would be desirable in an adult, and not foster it when an animal is small, that would help so much! But since your cat is already older, you will just have to discipline him each time he does it. If you have been roughhousing with your cat, stop doing it. Then the discipline will work better. Cats CAN be trained. It's not as easy as training a dog, and it takes perseverence. But we have cured feral cats who adopted us of some bad habits (they may reoccur occasionally, but nothing like they used to). Another thing that works for some problems is spraying the cat with water, but don't do it around electrical things.

Please don't hit your cat - especially not on the nose...
The cat needs to be played with. He's probably bored and is acting out. When they are young like that, they need a lot of stimulation. I'm thinking, if you play with him for two or so sessions per day, really working him out, he's likely to stop the biting.
Good luck.
Also, ask at Petsmart or some other pet store where they know behavioral stuff. Repellent is not really necessary at this point. Oh, and is he fixed? That could be an issue, also. When they are fixed, they are usually a bit calmer.

there is a training spray you can buy in the pet section...spray that on any furniture/objects that he's biting. As for him biting you, I'd start training him now...saying "no" and popping him on the nose or butt to let him know it's not okay. Do keep in mind though that kittens are pretty wild - will scratch and bite playfully VERY often. Once they mature a lot of that will die off.

he's teething so it's not always meant to be mean or destructive. get a spray bottle and fill it with water or use an old soda can with a few pennies in it. everytime you catch him doing it or he hurts you then spray him and say in a deep voice, NO, or shake the can a couple of times and say in a deep voice NO. ALWAYS use just plain water, anything else can get into his eyes and hurt him badly.

I don't know about your hand BUT if she/he's biting the electrical lines and stuff then you should get apple bitter spray and spray on the places you don't want it to bit(on electrical plugs and stuff But your hand). you can buy from the pet store.
