I would love to answer yes to this. Although I try to, I often find when looking back on situations, I could have shown more respect and compassion.

Definitely! I was taught the golden rule: do unto others as you want them to do unto you. In other words, be nice, respectful, and mindful of others if you want them to treat you the same way. This doesn't mean that everyone in my life has treated me the same way (especially my ex husband), but I still try to treat those that treat me bad with as much respect as I can, to a point. If I get fed up with the way they treat me, then I will treat them bad (verbally). But ONLY if they treat me bad for quite awhile.

yes I try to treat others with respect and compassion, but there are many times with I don't feel like this courtesy is returned.

I am always respectful to people until they turn their backs on me or stab me in the back. Then no, I'm not so nice after that. And I hold a grudge forever so usually there's no point in coming in with an apology. Won't work with me.

For my friends, family, boyfriend, my children and my step-son, I am most respectful and compassionate to them all or at least I try my best.

You bet I do!! I have been taught to treat others the way I want them to treat me. And if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all.
