I hope you do. I think they should always give the gifts back when that happens. Some do and some don't

Her is a scenario that may help>
Q. My daughter just called off her wedding scheduled for next week. The couple plan to take their time and hopefully marry within the next year. We've notified the guests. What to do with the gifts from the bridal shower? (Duplicated gifts have already been exchanged and cash gifts spent.)
Answer
Return the gifts to the guests that you can. If you can't I would try and return for gift cards and send them a gift card. The ones that have been returned for cash and you have spent the cash I would try and return any items bought and do the same thing regarding gift cards. Other than sending them a check for the money I don't know what else to tell you.
Sorry about the situation!

You should, since the gift was to celebrate a event that didn't happen. A classy bride/groom would send all the gifts back. You might even consider not giving back the gifts as fraud, since a wedding was "advertised" and never took place.

Yes. It is appropriate for the bride/groom to return all gifts to the person who gifted it if the wedding is called off.

Traditionally gifts are returned if the wedding is called off. Of course, proper etiquette is an endangered species and people are greedy.

Oh for heavens sake, you are sooooooo petty! I would think you would be more concerned for the emotional well being of your friend and be there to support her in her time of need rather than worrying about getting your gift back. I am glad you're not my friend.

No. Gifts are gifts. You give them. They aren't part of some sort of reversable business transaction.
