You take a little less each day until you can stop. Start cutting those suckers in half. That's how people quit drugs, booze, even coffee - a little less each day.

If that doesn't work, you might have to see a doctor to get them replaced with something less addicting.

You got some really sympathetic responses here, didn't you?

I think you are strong and courageous to try to do away with your painkillers; I have heard how very hard it is to do.

Can your doctor give you advice? I know that it is never wise to stop taking some medications abruptly, and painkillers are one of them.

Please be careful, and get the best help & advice you can. I'm thinking of you, and hope you get well soon!

I have been there and done that. You can either go into a drug rehab program, or you can tough it out on your own, the way I did. It's not easy, you will be nervous, edgey, you will crave it, but the best way I got through it was to sleep as much as possible. Take tylenol and drink LOTS of water, to flush you systems. I took them for 3 years, it's not easy, but you can do it. If you really want to quit. I hope you do well with it.

Seek medical advice. Withdrawal can be horrible, less so if it is medically controlled. You may need to check into a treatment facility, but discuss that with a physician. It is not a good idea for you to stop taking them suddenly if you feel you may be addicted to them.

Are you taking prescribed pain killers or street drugs? Either way, stop them gradually so you don't have withdrawal symptoms like headache, shakiness, nausea, belly pain, etc.

Ease off of them... Go longer hours without taking them, take less of them when you do take them... Ween yourself off of them
