It's to cope with a reality they find too stressful, difficult, or fearful. It's a shame, because if they learned to deal with reality, they wouldn't want to numb their brain.

Well Well, Speaking For Those Kids I Will Say From My Own Personal Experiences
Kids Get High because their Parents neglect them their parents do drugs around them or they drink around them draging them around bars etc.....
They Hire A Babysitter To Watch them Even though their in the next Room They Are Picked on In School,Want to be Accepted By the So Called In Crowd. They Have Nothign Better to do No where to go Their best Friend in the World becomes A Joint or A Crack Pipe!!!!
They Dont Kno What top Do With Themselves failing School because Mom & Dad Are Either to Busy To help them Or Just Plain Lazy
Theres Many Reasons Those Are Just A few Of Them
I Have A Brother Going To prison AgaiN For thje Second time he Got Out In 2000 he had just finished a 7 year bid he is now only 28 (You Do The Math!!!!)
all for the love of the drug
and this is what happens when we dont pay attention to or kids or we just oputright neglect their needs

First, let me make notice of your well-written question. In truth, you are asking from the right viewpoint.
People want to use drugs when they have been presented them and have stripped themselves down to be enslaved to it. Emotional changes is the only thing drugs do. They aren't consistant so the experience changes each time.
Many groups that get together do not sit and stay, people mingle and move on. But in these group settings with drug use, people tend to malinger. Some people like that. Hey, society does it too at sports and tailgate parties, shopping, going to the spa... Just in this type of culture they stay without conversation or a goal.
People want to use drugs to escape. Too bad they can't find any other escapes. Ones that are meaningful.

*people do drugs for diferent reasons but they keep using them because it's a disease that requires treatment. most do it to escape thir reality, their mental anguish. i decided long ago that rather than do drugs to escape reality i would go off to my lalaland and laugh and play and be a carefree child whenever i need to relax or escape. people get trapped doing drugs because they can't see the silver lining.

People use drug's because lack of confident ,scared of being alone,they also feel no one love's them or care's about them.When they feel this they don't care about themselve's and what's happening around them.So htey think drug's is the answer.It's not all it doe's fry your brain and kill you faster.But they are not thinking clearly, because drug's have tookin over their mind. They need love,and help.God love's them.

i'm gone be real i'm strate from da ghetto and i've seen every kind of drug there iz but it's jus u have to make money and somebody dat waz takin drugz provided food on the table for me so i see no problem
