God didn't wake-up one day and pick His Son's mother at "random." Like the Psalm says, he knew her from the first moment and destined her (like all humans) for her ministry. He prepared her for it by endowing her with grace (Luke 1.28). Gabriel and Elizabeth humbled themselves before the "Mother of my Lord" (Luke 1.43), but fundies treat Mary like dirt. It's obvious that no one should ascribe "divinity" to Mary, but treating her with reverence as a fellow human, spiritual "mother" is no crime. Fundies supposedly should treat their own mothers with honor and love, and Jesus doesn't get "jealous." How can they treat their Lord's Mother with anything less than good human love and respect? No one has to worship her, but she can be rendered enormous human "love". She herself said "All generations shall call me blessed" (Luke 1.48). Fundies like to skip that bit of Scrip.

FUNDIE IN LINE FOR ALLEGED "HEAVEN": Let me in, Lord, Lord!

JESUS: "You dissed my mother, and yours. NEXT!"

I don't know where you got that information.

Nobody hates her.

The only problem is that some people think they should pray to her.

You pray to Jesus, not his mom.

His father is God, but his mom is a human, no super powers.

You pray to God the father and God the son, not his mom.

That's a very good question. I know Catholics consider Mary divine, and to be included in the same breath as the Trinity, but she was born of man, and born on this earth, so she can't be perfect. Jesus is the ONLY perfect person who ever lived. Nobody else will ever be born sinless and perfect.. I am Catholic, and consider her pretty blessed! But of course, she's not perfect. Christians and other denominations of Christianity don't hold her in high regard as the Trinity. Only the Catholic Dogma regards her to be inline with the Trinity. It's almost the same thing with purgatory. No other religion believes in a purgatory, which is a temporary hell to get purified and your sins purged from your soul. That would lead a person who hasn't had a good, clean life to still go to Heaven. Only the Catholics believe this. I don't think it's in the Bible, and the Bible is the handbook of life. I wouldn't put any faith in there being a purgatory. It would be nice if there was, since that would give people a second chance, but it's not in the Bible.

I have a question that somebody might wanna answer. Many Mexican gangs wear the Virgin Mary, or the Guadalupe, on their shirts. Do they think that being in a gang is a good thing, where they are protected and blessed by the Virgin Mary? I knew a real bad Mexican guy who wore either the Virgin Mary, or the Guadalupe, on his shirt. He wasn't a nice guy, to say the least.

I've seen Christians absolutely trash Mary, and I've seen Christian worship her - with some gray areas in the middle.

Personally, I believe the reason why fundie Christians detest her is because she is a woman. The Bible teaches that women are the root of all evil, more over women were the original sin.

Think about it this way: if Mary were a man and gave birth to Jesus, not only would Jesus been seen as more sacred, but the male version of Mary would have been worshipped too because a man gave birth.

I think Mary SHOULD be worshipped. She went through the pain and suffering to bring Jesus into this world. She was the original Chosen One.

I agree with you I don't understand either. Most human sons have a problem with people speaking ill of or mistreating their mothers. Don't you think Christ would defend His mother as well. I as a Catholic believe that Mary was created to be Jesus mother from the start. God endowed her with the character she needed but still she chose to say yes to God's plan and that is awesome it shows amazing faith as back then she could have been put to death for being pregnant before marriage.

Fundamentalist "Christians" arn't so utterly, despicably hateful toward Mary, Mother of Jesus.

The vast majority recognise her for what she is. The mother of Jesus. Not someone to be worshiped. Not God either. She is respected. But nothing more so than say... the apostles.

I'm no fundamentalist Christian, and I have all the respect in the world for Mary, but you must admit, some religions seem to exhault Mary as something more than she was. Not to single out Catholics, but I have many Catholic friends who do the following:

1. Pray to Mary to intercede on their behalf
2. Fully believe that Mary was without sin
3. Fully believe that she did not die, but ascended into Heaven

Now, not one of these beliefs is Bible based, not one. And when I question these friends, I am accused of attacking their religion. I'm not being disrespectful at all. I'm simply questioning a belief that isn't based in the Bible.

We do not "utterley despicably hate Mary". She is most Godly woman who ever lived. She had the enormous and Holy task if being the Mother of the Son of God. She deserves our honor and respect. But she is not to be worshiped or prayed to.

We don't hate Mary. She was a good person, but she was a sinner like the rest of us. We don't worship Mary, we don't need to pray to or through Mary or any other saint. The Bible says "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" and that "there is none righteous, no not one". Jesus is God, so that excludes Him. Jesus never sinned. The Bible also says that "there is one Mediator between God and man, the Man Christ Jesus". www.equip.org

hmm don't know where you got that from but yes there is a respect for Mary. I just don't recognize her as my lord, Jesus is the one who died for our sins and believing in Jesus doesn't negate her at all. hah good luck with all the "fundie" christians

first of all we dont hate Mary. She was chosen to give birth to the messiah, but that doesnt mean we need to pray to her, cuz she cant tell Jesus what to do, he's God. u pray to God not Mary and u shouldnt have a statue of her, read the commandments.
