is it possible to have hypothyroid and hyperthyroidism?

Not at the same time because they are opposite conditions. Thyroid function can change over time due to disease or infection and someone who had previously been hypothyroid could change to being hyperthyroid, as might happen after developing a thyroid tumor or cancer. Also, drug treatments given to destroy or lower excessive thyroid function can cause people who were hyperthyroid to become hypothyroid and these people will then require thyroid supplementation to keep normal thyroid levels.

In a sense, yes. But not really. If you have hypothyroidism and you are taking Synthroid it may throw you into a hyperthyroid crisis if you overdose. And vice versa. If you had hyperthyroidism and you are getting radiation or got your gland removed, you can go into a hypothyroid crisis.

no, hypothyroidism is diminished or lack of thyroid activity, hyperthydroidism is extra activity. I have been diagnosed with hypo- gained 70 pounds (on my usual 115lb body) and it took a year to diagnosis and another to get meds to balance out. Still trying like hell at the gym and by diet to lose the weight

If you have an autoimmune disease like Graves or Hashishmotos and are being treated for it there are times you go between hypo and hyper and then hypo again. It depends on how and what your are being treated with. Too much of synthroid or cytomel can give you the classic symptoms of being hyper.

NOPE... no possible way to have both. You either have one or the other. Your thyroid either secretes too much hormone or not enough. It couldn't do both at the same time.

No. HYPO - means not enough & HYPER - means over active , or too much thyroid hormone is being produced.
