Because people want to believe in something. They are afraid of being all alone in an uncaring universe and so they believe in something they find comfort in. They like to believe in an almighty being, and this can lead to people blindly following the dictates of some hurtful philosophy. Actually, the God you believe in actually tells you something about yourself, because your conception of God is not the real God but is your belief in it.

The actual God, if there is one, is unreachable. The Tao te Ching teaches us that "the tao that is spoken of is not the real Tao. "

Sounds alot more probable than two tiny atoms (which we dont know where they came from) that hit and created an entire race solar system that coincide perfectly. Also, if you read the bible you will find prophecies then and now that have all came true. There are also many historical sites that prove many things to be true. Also, many of the different religions all have the same basic story. There are several that have different stories of Noah and the Ark, or speak of a flood. These are seperate nations. Our whole history is based on Christianity. Read the old declarations and state law books. They all reference a supreme being or God. Christianity began as far back as the world dates. Scientist claim the world is billions of years old according to layers of dirt. But think about it. A massive flood that covered the entire earth would make layers and layers of rock and dirt. Things would get buried. We would find fossils deep within. If you really do alot of research things will come together. And dont take someones word for it. Everyone seems to come up with their own idea from something they heard or saw and turn it into the truth. When actually, they are just uneducated on the topic and are spreading words far from the truth.

You should try to make your questions a bit more specific, and start the ball rolling with some kind of counterargument. For example, as the previous poster said, why do you NOT believe in a higher power. Is there some specific observation you have made that will finally settle this age old question? Since this question is asked every two minutes on this page in some form or other you may just want to search the page for your answer as I'm sure someone has asked it more comprehensively than you...

Because most people just start out trying to do what is right. A lot of them though just love that self righteous feeling. They are part of a special group who is "in the know", have special privilege and are better than anyone who is not in their group. It is a kind of self delusion. Even well meaning people can get caught up in it and not even care about the truth. Superiority is a strong drug.

Because it makes them feel safe. It gives them something to hold on to in a world full of pain and fear. Just like as children we believe in Superman, or Batman. They would save the day. Well it kind of works the same way for people who believe in deities with almighty power. In a world full of power struggles and terrorists it makes one feel safe to believe that 'God' will save you in the end. Or in my case the Goddess will lend me the strength to see it through no matter what happens.

One reason is that God put the knowledge of Himself within us. Another reason is that His divine attributes are clearly seen through what has been made so that all men are without excuse. The Big Bang demonstrates that the universe had a beginning, which means that it had to be created by an eternal Creator. All the evidences support biblical creation. www.reasons.org

It helps them in their need to explain things, even if that is not the most rational way to do so. Believing in an almighty being allows to think that the world is not as chaotic as it is and leads them to believe. They need to believe in this being to explain what happens when you die and the reason why they are here. It just a way to convince yourself that there is a reason for everything that happens.

Because the universe is evidence of something greater than ourselves. You can't look at a watch and presume that it wasn't created. Same with the universe.

because every body says seeing is believing... that's why...

if you can do an almighty thing then you might one of gods descendants...

or maybe one of devils angels...

so be careful on choosing the one to believe...

it up to you to believe...

but why do others believe...

that what they want to ease their need for cure or for something that they want in this cruel life of ours...
